Also you can google their names and find their steam accounts that why with people talking about them and sharing it when they do find it.
The "friends" search on steam is crap and with a very generic name you are impossible to find seeing as how there are over 1 billion accounts in total.
I do agree we should be able to control who can and can't add us as friends though, in fact there was a thread about this that I put my thoughts into. Its not even everything that I think should be in there, just what I had thought about at the time.
Something like this would help not just streamers (which I don't think should get special treatment) but also everyone else on steam in general.

Yes, so I don't need hide profile.
Just need a toggle option to control whether friend requests are allowed.
Of course they would never use real name, but nick name will same or hava a part of steamer name(This also nick name).
Some streamer will try to hide steam name, but some game is hard to hide, Many games set game name same as steam name, and don't have streamer mode.
They make picture to hide them, but watcher can still get a way to find them.
So I think make a option for add friends can result this, but I also think steam will not read this.
