Make a option let people can't find you in search
Some famous or streamer, or some person will get onstantly harassed by friend requests.
I believe this need has been long overdue for many people.
Now we have friend code to add friend, we should have a option to close public name search.
Or more simple, make a switch just take out the bottom of add friend from his page.

A streamer shouldn't use their game name/real name on a streaming account, they would be crazy if they do. They should also never share their steam (or any other platforms) account name on line anywhere for obvious reasons. The smartest thing to do would be to not use a name on steam and just stick with the steam ID that you are given.

Also you can google their names and find their steam accounts that why with people talking about them and sharing it when they do find it.

The "friends" search on steam is crap and with a very generic name you are impossible to find seeing as how there are over 1 billion accounts in total.

I do agree we should be able to control who can and can't add us as friends though, in fact there was a thread about this that I put my thoughts into. Its not even everything that I think should be in there, just what I had thought about at the time.

Something like this would help not just streamers (which I don't think should get special treatment) but also everyone else on steam in general.

Its something that I and a few others have asked for a long time ago, but nothing has ever come of it.

It would be nice to set some minimums of stuff people must have to be able to try to add them to the friends list.

First off, just being able to turn it off fully would also be nice.

Must have been a part of Steam for X number of years. 0 (ignore this requirement) 1 through how ever many years Steam has been around. (Pull down box options)

Must have Public account. Can't be friends only or private (check box).

Must have games that they have bought on Steam itself. (check box)

Must have X number of friends already (Check box with pull down options) 1-10, 11-30, 31-60, 61-100, 101 or above.

Must have played games within the last X number of days. 0 (ignore this requirement) 1 through 30) Pull down box options.

Can not be banned in any way (Check box) (Includes all, basically any ban (Vac, community, forums, game)).

Active on the forums (check box).

Have played a game with them in the last week. (check box).

Have not changed their e-mail in the last 60 days. (check box).

Have not changed their display name in the last X days. (check box with pull down options). 1 to 7 days, 2 to 3 weeks, 1 month, 6 months.

Basically you could make it as restrictive as you want it. You can even leave it as open as it is now. Having all or even just some of these options, which would be set under your preferences area and that you never have to worry about once you set them up as they will always be remembered by Steam, would be a great way to limit scammers and spammers from contacting people.

Such people are smart enough to use alt-accounts

Being able to see your profile is necessary to be able to report it - scammers would love to be able to hide their profile.....

Yes, so I don't need hide profile.
Just need a toggle option to control whether friend requests are allowed.

I think there is too much people just use one account, cuz they don't need switch account when they do anthing.
Of course they would never use real name, but nick name will same or hava a part of steamer name(This also nick name).
Some streamer will try to hide steam name, but some game is hard to hide, Many games set game name same as steam name, and don't have streamer mode.
They make picture to hide them, but watcher can still get a way to find them.

So I think make a option for add friends can result this, but I also think steam will not read this.
