Steam should have native support to capture and share our gameplay
It's 2024, we shouldn't rely on third party apps to be able to record/capture and share videos of our games on Steam.

EDIT: NO, this is not about Steam hosting our videos. It's just about Steam giving us the option to record our gameplay (store it in out PCs and then we can choose how to share it), just like they give us the option to screenshot.

EDIT 2: What I meant with sharing wasn't about Steam hosting our videos, but just have easy solutions to quickly share our videos in other platforms, i.e. Youtube, Twitter, etc.

EDIT 3: Yes, exactly, something like Windows gives you with the alt+win+R but without the need of Game Bar or its 30min limit (or any other third party software).

There's a reason why there are very few players in the space and microsoft dropped out of it

this is stupendously expensive to maintain. even twitch has pulled out of korea due to being unable to find affordable local partners to have peering relationships with

There's also a reason why twitch is pushing out ads that are so long, making ads more frequent, and forcing partnered streamer to functionally stream 24/7/365 or lose their partnerships

No, we don't need the bloat in it.

If you have an Nvidia or AMD card you already have access to the recording software. Shadowplay & ReLive. You can also use other screen capture software too.

Hosting videos is VERY expensive because they take up so much space and use a lot of bandwidth being sent out and unless Valve is going charge YOU money for that, they would need to put ads from 3rd party companies, which I very much doubt they will do. So stick to youtube or one of the many other video hosting sites out there that put ads on the videos.

Windows Game bar does this.

Yeah its already built into windows, so don't see any reason for steam to do it when its already readily available

Yep, exactly what I mean. Why wouldn't Steam have this function natively integrated without the need for Game Bar nor its limits.
I mean, they have a whole enriched text notepad integrated into it.

Steam doesn't habe to be an "everything client" because to do everything causes bloat.

There are platforms and apps for specific things. Welcome to pc gaming, let alone app use. You want specific things, get ready to do specific things manually.

I honestly wouldn't trust Valve to do this. Nor would I want that extra bloat.

I mean, look at the state of Broadcasting on Steam.

There is also plenty of software available on the store as well.

Nope,. Mostly because its better to use a specialized app than a bloated generalist app. Think about it. STeam is already doing a dozen and one tghings and you want to try to have it juggle something as intensive as capturing and encoding video?

Do the other PC clients have recording software in 2024? No they do not, nor have they offered such an option prior to 2024.

Steam should have a way to trade stocks on NYSE, ASX, NZX, London Stock Exchange, etc.
Steam should have a calculator app
Steam should have a food ordering service integrated into the client
Steam should have a PC builder / PC parts shop in the client

No... keep the bloat out of Steam.

I completely agree, we can already capture screenshots, I wish we were able to also capture the last minute (or whatever) of gameplay when holding down the share button, so many platforms out there do this already successfully and natively - Switch, PS5, Series X. I don't have the game bar I wiped it due to me preferring the Steam ecosystem and the bar taking a screenshot along with Steam every time I pressed the capture button on the controller (what a pain), so this feature would be invaluable to myself and I'm sure many others.

The feature is coming in the future. In ValveTime.

WHERE ARE THE NAYSAYERS NOW HUH!?

I'm still here and still not interested in the extra bloat and still think its dumb for Valve to get into stuff like that.

I also think if they do get into it, they should charge people for the space used, to help keep the junk down as I have no doubt someone will figure out a way to upload stuff that isn't game play (porn, racist/bigoted/hateful stuff and so on).

I personally wouldn't use it, if I did, I can just capture and upload it to youtube. Haven't done that in a long long time.
