Remove Might & Magic : Duel of Champions from your database please
Hello,
The servers for this game were closed in 2016.
However, it still appears in the Steam database.
Why is this?
Data related to this game such as achievements for example continue to count in our Steam account data.
I don't find this logical and would like an explanation please.
In my opinion, the game should be completely deleted, or players should be given the option of launching the game in our Steam library. Even if it means only playing offline.
Thank you very much

Why shouldn’t challenges for games continue to factor after they’re no longer playable? Users still did those things.

Why wouldn't past activity be tracked? Also you are still free to launch the game, whether you can play it offline is another story...

They aren't going to remove achievements people earned just because the game shut down

For a game that can only be played online, I don't see the point in continuing to count it. I'd point out that for CS GO they took it all away without asking anyone.

Still free to launch the game?
Can you explain me how to do this please?
Because it's impossible for me...

I have good memories of the games I've played, if any of them became unavailable in the future for whatever reason, I wouldn't want the data to be nuked. I still played the games and earned those achievements.
Brujeira 30 DIC 2023 a las 16:16
All of the above.. plus there is the fact that Valve have (historically at least)* given exactly zero... you know whats... about the achievement system.

*Maybe they've changed as I haven't been here in a while. I doubt it though.

Anyway, even achievement tracking websites like https://truesteamachievements.com/ won't remove a game's achievements if the servers go down - they'll just mark the online achievements as unobtainable and leave them in the stats. Why would Valve do anything different?
Sleepy Yoshi 30 DIC 2023 a las 17:14
Everyone who played the game had the opportunity to complete the achievements. I don't see any reason why people that did so should be penalised to appease people would didn't and now can't.

In fact I'd be hard pressed to think of any circumstance where I'd agree with forcefully removing achievement data from people.

But it counts for all the people who played it online back at its time. I do have achievements and playtime for online games that closed doors and I wouldn't like that part of my Steam gaming history gone just because some people can't play it at the present date.

Just like event achievements that can't be earned anymore. They're part of a lot of gamers history. And part of what makes being a completionist a hard task.

CSGO wasn't actually removed, it was replaced by CS2, quite a different situation.
Cathulhu 31 DIC 2023 a las 1:54
Wasn't really replaced, the game got an engine update and its name changed. It's not a new or massively different game.

That they removed achievements which promoted playing the game in a way that can hinder your team by forcing a specific way to play was not that well received and most used shortcuts to get those achievements anyway.

I think that most of you are totally wrong about what I've said here.
I'm just asking Valve to consider achievements' hunters.

Why they don't let to us, players, the choice?
It can be simple and please everyone here : just let people who wants to erase a game from steam library and then it doesn't count in the player's stats.

It's all I'm asking here.

About CS GO or other games, Steam Store erase them as they want and nobody cares.
Stats and achievements are done so for me it's not replaced.

Achievement removal is something that needs to be done by the developer. I think the only case of this ever happening was by the Rise of the Triad reboot, where there were two achievements where you had to teabag 5 severed heads for one, and teabag a corpse as a dog in another.

CS:GO achievements were nuked by the game devs, which also happened to be Valve.

The game devs did it and are the only ones who can.

Get it now?

Steam Store is property of Valve who allows developers to put achievements.
So Valve can do everything.
