A nifty Idea came to me

Greeting Cards.
You kknow just like you can use emotes on the forum and stickers and room effects in Chat.
I think it'd be nifty if we could get greeting cards we could pop on someone's forum (assuming they allow it of course).

Where would these cards come from. Why the Points SHop of course.
YOu buty it and you can plop it in the a profile comment any time.

WHat do you guys think?

you should come up with a idea that rewards steam users with something useful, not nonsense profile awards

Sounds like a perfect use of points for these users who have collected more than they can use.

Doesn't have to be related to a specuific season, and even seasonal.

Winter X-Mas, Haunukah, Kwanza, Halloween, St Patricks Day, New Years, Valentines, Easter, Summer,

There's also event cards like Birthdays, Graduations, Mother's Day, Father's Day, And the list goes on.


Yes it would be a point DUmp, and a Waste of Time, But a fun Waste of Time.


And consider that you can have multiple variations of them. HEck they needn't even be Valve produced. I'm quite sure some devs would take it as an extra bit of brand penetration if people startted usending around greetings cards related to their franchaise.

Can you imagine a Doom themed St. Patrick's day greeting card?

as if games don't have enough content already you want them to start gimmick greeting cards for waste of time steam profile?

sorry but its just not interesting enough.

maybe if it was like a greeting card game where the cards could be played against others or something , it could get interesting, maybe something like 1,000 steam points for a deck starter and you could pay more for different cards, that kind of thing has potential

but as a just a profile award it seems to dry and boring, no offense this is a gaming platform make a game out of it.

i will go along with this and say if it makes you guys happy, but try and liven it up , are they going to be animated greeting cards?

i see a lot of posted animated picture content already on many users profiles so i am not sure this isn't already being done in some sense.

Honestly I just thought it would be a fun little idea while I was hunting around for ASCII Season's Greetings to post. A nice, easy way to send a message with perhaps a little flare. MIght also be able to accomodate animated and non-animated varieties.. I mean if you got the points.

As long as there is an on/off switch for receiving them along with one for just seeing them as I would prefer to also not see them on others profiles and its off by default, sure.

That is a muist i would imagine. And I'm not just speaking of the usual 'Allow COmments' permission. But a specific greeting card related thing.

Honestly, I think it would be better if it used the same "send a message" type of system as gifting a game uses. Basically e-cards in the client instead of via e-mail.
1) Opt-in only, so if you don't want to get cards from anyone. you won't.

Yes. This. ^^^
2) Instead of text-only messages, you would buy a greeting card from a set of designs for various events, with blank/generic designs (no specified event) ones as well, that you can send for less well-known holidays or life events. You would personalize them with your own message, with a set character limit- and *no links allowed*.
3) The recipient would get a notification that they got a card, and just like gifts- if they are opted in, they can choose to accept or decline- maybe you don't want to get cards from basically random people that are only on your friends list for MP/Co-op gaming? So you still have a choice if you are opted in.
4) I am not sure about having them displayed on profile comment sections. Some messages could be very personal, or even inappropriate. Keep it between the sender and recipient, and create a page for both to be able to see their greeting card history (sent/received)
