Add ability to upload GIF as avatar

Cmon valve. You add animated avatars to the point shop at a snails pace. Allow us the option to upload a gif as our avatar for an equal amount of points, or for free. (I know it wouldn't be free)

Would be great if people used the search feature and read all the reasons why something like this is more then likely not going to happen.

As mentioned in many other threads about this topic, I very much doubt Valve will ever allow animated avatars just because of the huge potential to abuse it by breaking the rules.

Its far quicker to just look at a static images to see if it breaks the rules then it would be to sit there staring at an animated image to see if even one frame breaks the rules.

Steam support is already slow enough removing stuff that breaks the rules, we don't need to make them 10 to 30 times slower.


If Valve were ever to make something like this, they need to put something into Steam to turn off ALL animations and have it off by default.

On top of that you have the animated avatars in the points shop, so even less reason now to allow animated avatars.

What could possibly go wrong? They're only pixels on a screen. Maybe people would stream their desktops into their profile pictures and cause a resonance cascade?

Its probably just too expensive, or the network isn't build for it, or the computer hardware is too slow. A technical limitation.
