Add a Hide thread option
On the first post of the thread under report / block option add a hide thread option. This will help people clean up what they see and they won't have to bother with responding to ideas or threads they get offended by.

As mentioned by others this is an oft requested feature that would be quite useful

Hiding topics completely that you have no interest in will do this, simply blocking all conversations and seeing everything listed as "Topic was created by someone you blocked" instead of what they actually posted does not.

Not to mention, you may not necessary want to hide everything the person who created a topic in the first place. Maybe it's just one particular thing on the front page that he created you're just not interested in.

Yep, exactly. When there are 20 threads on garbage it makes you scroll thru several pages of the forum, would be so much nicer to just hide them so you never see them and makes it easier to use the forum

Yep, exactly. When there are 20 threads on garbage

All you gotta do is pressing the next page button, I'm not sure what's so terrible about doing that.

I shouldn't have to spend a significant amount of time just to find decent topics.

Not to mention just hiding topics you don't want to see from only your view ( and only your view, no one elses mind you ) or engage in hurts absolutely no one in the process. There's no downside to having the ability to hide topics you do not care to engage with.

For us users there's no downside, indeed. But for Steam's development team, creating a feature that would be used only by a few users might be a waste of time and resources.

Alternatively, you can exercise some self control and refrain from opening them. Isn't that what people say about blocking?
Your point gets moot... ...when there are more than 40 of the threads in one forum, several of them deceptively named, who just go on opining an insinuating. Shouldon't the debaters, too, be asked for self-control - and e.g. contributing to existing threads on their topic ???

I could waste hours of time to block or flag people, fo doing something which, with benefit of doubt, is an OK thing. And get enraged over this...

...when I also could just decide "This specific discussion thread just isn't my piece of cake", and hide it, I'd deem that a win-win-situation.

Filtereiong a whole page of garbage for the few bits of useful information - each and every time I reload the forum home page. It's not terrible, but annoying, pisses me off, and significantly diminishes my forum experience.

Counter-question: What's so terrible about just letting me - and countless others - block or at least tag threads for which I don't care?

Well, I do that all the time. The only difference is that I don't hide it.

Nothing, I just find it extremely unnecessary.

It's almost as if certain users just post to attack ideas, even when they can't find any fault with the idea...

The facts are this idea would help people and wouldn't cause anyone anything negative or hurt anyone and if anything would help the forums.

Well, saying that such feature is unnecessary is not attacking the idea, good luck with it. What percentage of Steam users do you think would make use of this feature, though?
Here's an idea if you want to avoid reading or posting in a topic: Don't read or post in that topic. Simple! This suggestion is completely unnecessary. We are already born with the ability to solve this problem. No one is forcing to read any topics or post in any topics.

It would help during those times when a hot topic saturates a forum with multiple posts. These events often bury posts we'd rather read or help with, but finding them among the deluge can be frustrating. The only option we have now, block, doesn't solve the problem.

Again it helps if you read the idea before posting. This is about getting rid of the clutter on the forum screen, not the content of individual threads.

It gets old having to search thru pages of threads because people are spamming random stuff you don't care about. Nothing at all to do about posting in a topic...

it would take 100 times longer if you had to click every topic and then hide it. Without that requested feature you can just simply scroll past it and click a topic you are interested in and then subscribe to it, super simple.
So your suggestion would actually make it more difficult, not easier.

From your description of how it would work, it doesn't add any more work than your super simple subscription solution.
