Deleting Achievements

I would like the option to fully remove all traces of a game's achievements from my profile.

With the release of Counter-Strike 2, effectively replacing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Valve has proven this can be done. As I had 100% achievements and perfected the game CS:GO, all traces of that have now been removed from my profile without my request.

So now, I would simply like that option to exist for all other games at my request.

There are games that have been removed from the Steam store for years now even, with traces of their achievements still on profile. So if Valve has now demonstrated that it is possible to remove those records, I would like the option to request it.

Literally all traces would be an issue (i.e., reset achievements would still feature in totals/percentages here and there) but if you are not aware of its existence, please google for SAM (Steam Achievement Manager):

Have used it myself to reset some achievements I didn't (yet) want to have, such as for a game that bestowed one upon me for just having started it once: throws off my method of using achievements to keep track of what I did and did not (yet) play.

Sure, would be nice to be able to do this via the Steam client natively, but the issue may be the first sentence above, i.e., Steam wanting/needing to "do it right" if it were to do it at all, yet this not being very possible or easy as to shown statistics.

Valve can do so for their own games, period. They have a "reset" function in TF2 even.

But if Valve did not make the game, they can't offer deletion on behalf of the Steamworks partner.

I was resetting achievements in TF2 over a decade ago. I don't think this is an issue over whether it can be done. It's likely an issue whether the developer implements the feature into their game and whether or not Valve wants to add a feature that exists outside of a game or supersede's the developers chosen implementation.

So far it seems like they do not.

FWIW the way the above linked SAM works is by pretending to be the game and then just setting/resetting achievements via the Steam API.

Yes, said pretending may be an issue if the Steam client were to do so itself I guess, and disappearing achievements may not be something an(y) individual developer wants to see possible.

AFAIU any developer who wants achievement resets to be possible can implement such a function.

Yes, I'd agree that poster/I am/are likely out of luck. As in, can be done technically, but perhaps not so much "contractually", i.e., as to what Valve feels developers that publish on Steam need to support.

Not much. They suggest things, provide tools and things like "best practises" in the Steamworks documentation. But they don't enforce much, they're all about choice for developers/publishers to sell their game on Steam as they like.

Developers can already do that but it is their choice to implement it.

Mimimi has a reset achievements option for their games in the menu.
