Custom animated profile pics
Probably it has been suggested already cause it seems like a thing people would want, but here's my idea for implementation.
Now with the resent release of counter strike 2, animated profile pics are actually animated in-game. So now the demand for animated profile pics will actually increase.
The problem is that there are 1100+ animated profile pics, yet me and my friends dont like 99.99% of them. So we end up scrolling through so many and we dont find anything we like, its a waste of time. The remaining 0.01% we like are still not really worth buying but we dont mind them.
So i would say we should be able to buy the ability to upload custom animated profile pics/gifs with steam points, just like we can buy extra showcases and themes.
It should probably cost anywhere from 5k to 10k points

this thread is about custom animated profile avatars. this feature will add additional strain on current moderation and they are not equipped for it.

adding millions more reports costs money.

"this feature will add additional strain on current moderation " You could't be more wrong, if i wanted to use a profile pic from an anime or a movie, whatever, the pic itself being still or animated has no different impact in terms of how many reports you get. And an animated one wouldnt be any more vulnerable in terms of copyright compared to a still image. It has no difference. So you are using literally 0 logic here.
Also "millions", really? :D millions ??? :D

you are wrong and even if people tell you that know a lot more about it than you ever will you are wrong you wont even listen so were done.

you wont be getting a custom animated profile avatar.

Nope, i am correct and i have already proven YOU wrong, i've busted your points that are based on no logic and you couldn't come up with the slightest comeback.
So your ego felt shattered and all you could respond was "im right u wrong"

yes ok ok you are 100% correct. its an amazing idea that will never be instantly abused by 1000s of people the second it goes live.

Buddy, u forgot to mention how it would be abused, we already have custom profile pics :p, it makes no difference if it has 1 or 30 frames on it, ppl would use the feature as its used rn, except one is animated and the other isnt

Copyright violations would be through the roof because people would use a image from Google thinking they can use it. So no.

what? ppl already use images from google xD Being animated or non animated has no difference in terms of copyright violations

yes it would

yours now costs $150 per month, deal?

explain why it would need extra moderation xd

Because it takes far longer to see if an animated image breaks the rules vs a static non-changing image.

Who ever is seeing if it breaks the rules, has to literally sit there and stare at it for the entire time to make sure not to miss anything.

With a static image it takes a second to see if it breaks the rules, with an animated one if its 10 seconds long, thats 10 times longer to check. If its 15 seconds its 15 times longer, if its 20 seconds its 20 times longer.

Now for one individual account thats not much time. But add up the potential time 30 million unique accounts daily would take. Add up how much 140 million unique accounts a month would take. Add up how much more than 1 billion accounts would take.

And they would have to do that every single time someone changed the image, or it was reported.

That doesn't take into account copyrighted images which at any point someone who owns the copyright could come and report it.

If they allowed for something like this, it should be at least a minimum of 100,000 points. It doesn't go live till an actual human looks at it. If it breaks the rules or copyright you lose the 100,000 points and can no longer submit custom avatars in any form (static or animated), ability to upload art is removed, because if you break the rules for avatar you will break the rules for other stuff too. No giving out or even receiving awards. And if I had my way you'd no longer be able to gain any points at all.

Basically I'd make breaking the rules for this very painful as a warning to people to not even bother testing if they can get away with it or not. Because we know there will be people who will try to slip in even 1 single frame of something that breaks the rules. How do I know this? Decades on the internet, a bunch of it dealing with idiots trying to sneak stuff past the moderators and admins because they thought they were much smarter than the mods and admins. They quickly learned their lesson with bans from the forums.

how can it be abused?

i dont want to take you to a dark place but if you were able to see some of the stuff people used to upload....... and that was just content, avatars are forced upon you.. i can see your avatar i dont have to go to your artwork section or anything..

sold it for 1 bitcoin was the post.

Don't waste your time here, op.

You can always talk to indie devs and suggest them to upload something to the point shop. Some are very accessible, friendly guys.

eram was a former Global volunteer moderator and would know this more than regular users.

Lmfao, using a corrupt mod as a excuse.

So glad those people are gone. You can't trust eram. I remember him abusing another user saying he sold his steam account so we don't know who he is

Another bird that soared far above your head.

If you didn't get it, that's fine but you shouldn't be calling people out for things you didn't understand.

Yeah, I don't know what's the difference between a... uh, let's say "fountain" that is animated and a static one.

Yes my avatar is forced up you, u dont have to go my profile to see it, anddd where is the part where you make a valid statement that is actually anyhow related to the topic?
If you are going to keep writing false statements and numbers, continue to neglect the points i've made and bring no actual argument to the subject, i am just going to take it as wilful ignorance and i shall not commit another cardinal sin by responding to you again

Not only that, people would surely try to sneak in inappropriate content or messages in individual frames of their animated avatar that would be difficult to notice unless you're specifically looking for them. Moderating animated avatars has the potential to be a nightmare.

So you admit you steal images that how you get sued, and other actions. You just proved why this shouldn't be added.
As if you made your own PFP.
The Presence 29. mar. 2023 kl. 12:09
It's way too much of a hassle to implement something like this. People can sneak in inappropriate images for a fraction of a frame, so each of those uploads would have to be manually verified to see if it follows the guidelines and whatnot.

Right now people don't really upload a picture that's inappropriate (breaking the rules) but if someone does then it's easily spotted and can be reported. Doing so with custom .gifs is significantly harder.
