Remove "Jester" award
It's not that the idea was bad, but the practice and how it's used completely goes against the idea of it being an award for funny posts people find humorous.
Instead it has become an award people add onto other people whose opinion they disagree with (kind of like the nerd emoji emote on discord or a glorified dislike button)
The real biggest issue with this usage doesn't come from the use of it being a dislike or w/e however it's that the award gives points.

Points being used for things you can add to your profile or level yourself up.
Because of this the jester emote has become used in such a way that people intentionally post bait and terrible takes just to gain jester awards for their profile. Causing a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of terrible low quality and anoying posts that now have an incentive to exist by the award/point system.

This topic has been broached many times before in this forum. In fact, several have tried to farm awards with posts just like yours.

At the end of the day, the whole awards system in and of itself was poorly thought out - for reviews as well as the forums. It should be removed completely from both of these venues.

I wouldn't mind the award system getting axed. it's anoying.
But honestly i'm more concerned with the negative social enforcement the system is catering to in it's current implementation. The jester is pretty much the biggest example of it.

Other people having mentioned the issue doesn't sound odd to me. Just that valve refuses to do anything about it.. Funny cause the current system makes moderation harder as a result of so many award farmers.

Yeah, and whoever at Valve thought giving posts and profiles awards was a good idea should have been fired permanently.

I wouldn't go that far, they had good intentions. It just happens that not everyone will immidently understand the negatives until it's implemented. I'm not so interested in ruining peoples lives over these things, just that it gets fixed.

Nothing to fix. System works fine.
If people make troll threads, ignore those threads.

I would give you ten jester awards for this take, but too bad I'm broke.

Jester - "A valued member of the King's Court" plus free points.

Secondly you cannot "know" the intent of the person giving the award instead you "assume" it is negative, malicious etc.

(INTENT: Something that is intended) - "No one is a mindreader to know the giver's intent".

In turn this leads to:

(ASSUME: To make a supposition; suppose or believe:) - As in, it fits your narrative to have it be negative malicious etc which goes back to "No one is a mindreader to know the giver's intent".

And finally you have to "prove" the intent of the giver but you cannot unless they actually state the reason why.

this issue is raised regularly
and the same gas lighting is brought out in retort every time

the "jester" is being used as "clown"
and "clown" is a common insult these days for "stupid" and "moron" and "idiot" etc.
any claim to the contrary is intentional malice
we have "hilarious" for anything funny.

the Discussion Guidelines state:
Do not do any of the following:
insult other members

Do not post any content on Steam containing the following:
harassment, even as a joke
and yet the "clown" 🤡 award is being used as a means of anonymously harassing others.

consider valve to be either incompetent or negligent.
because despite this obvious misuse of the "jester" for years, they have done nothing about it.

if support ever tell you:
This forum is regularly read by Valve's development team.
they're lying

The people using the Jester as an insult are kids and immature adults, and being kids and immature adults they will spend money on games just to get more points to insult people with.

Awards are just another way Valve makes money, and expecting Valve to do the right thing is quite nieve

IMO the awards system should have been kept simple. Like Reddit. Have at much a gold/silver/bronze award to spice things and that's it.
The Commendatore May 9, 2023 @ 3:30am
They are meaningless pixels. Just use them for something fancy in the point shop, or pay it forward to a comment that you deem to be useful and want to award something.
Xhoas May 9, 2023 @ 4:40am
Good ol' Jester award.
