Remove "genre" from everywhere on Steam
Search, game pages, everywhere. Remove Genre.

Genre was meaningless 10 years ago, it's worse now. What is an "Action" game? Adventure? It's just 12 meaningless constant tags that persist throughout Steam. Just nonsense to scroll past every time while wishing there was something better to actually filter things I want to buy (the new tags system is better).

Genre also takes a lot of visual space on steam deck that I have to scroll past if I want to filter my search and gives devs an excuse to not implement tag filtering on steam deck.

No one has ever used "genre" to search or filter for a game type they like because it is so broad and all encompassing and thus useless in 2023 (except racing).

Remove genre everywhere, replace with tag cloud and tag filters everywhere because it is 2023.

Thanks.

I have used genre to filter through games because I cannot stand the Discovery Queue.

Sure, the word "genre" can be removed. But not the tags, those get used by people. I sort my collections in the library based on such tags or search the store in combination with other tags, for example.

Agreed genres are meaningless now, and more so with every passing year. Do they really need to be removed, however? Personally I simply don't use them in any way and don't notice they're there.

They might not have the value they used to, but they are still relevant.

"Hidden Object Games", for example. "Builder".

You have failed to convince me.
Your argument boils down to: I dont use this, remove it, its the current year.

No. My argument is it has been replaced by Tags which are now ready to be rolled out everywhere Genre is now.

Tags are user-generated and can be significantly more granular than "genre". They are also often misused, either intentionally as a joke or by people who don't quite grasp the intended use of the tags.

There is still value to publisher-provided genre tags to give users a general idea of what to expect.

I still use Genre to browse. Tags for fine tuning but genre is fine to start. Want an RPG I start there first.

If you don't want to use Genre don't but there is not need to remove it so the rest of us that still use it can't

In general I agree but I also think that "genres" can be used to filter things in a broader way.
