Steam is autoplaying store page videos
This did not happen before I don't know if it's a bug but I certainly do not like this new behaviour so please change it

Did you click the little X in the video that turns off auto play?

:qr:

Where is that, send screenshot

Hover over the video to see the play button and the volume icon. Next to the volume slider is a little box with the text, "Autoplay videos."

Click the box to add the X to it which will stop the auto playing.

Clearing your cookies/cache will reset this option back to the default ON.

This has always been a thing since I can remember.

Something has changed with the redesign, though? I used to have "autoplay videos" enabled, and it would mean that the video would start upon entering the store page, but I could stop it manually and it would stay stopped. Now it resumes playing after a while.
Even worse, I disabled the autoplay, and it still starts playing if I change tab and go back.

This has nothing to do with the redesign, it's an intentional change made around 2 weeks ago to pause the video when you switch tabs and resume when you return.

Yeah, I didn't imply it was because of the redesign directly, I just noticed it happen around that time. The annoying part is that it resumes videos that I had purposely stopped, not just videos that were stopped automatically by changing tab. And it overrides the autoplay option.

The code path for video controls and this pause/resume behavior are not in the same scope, so it's currently not possible for one to affect the other. You can run this to disable the new bahavior:
$J(document).off('visibilitychange')

Really? It's 2023 and the redesigned Steam storefront still uses jQuery?
Wow...

What new lows will Valve sink to next?

> $J.fn.jquery "1.8.3"

Oh cool. A version from 2012 that has 3 known XSS vulnerabilities and a case of prototype pollution. Just what we all want to see on a storefront handling sensitive account information including PII and payment data, no doubt... :steamfacepalm:

This is horrible. I don't want to turn autoplay off because the number one thing I do when I open a store page is watch the trailer, but I often have multiple game store pages open for different games when I am deciding what to buy or just looking for a game to play and every time I switch to a tab the video starts playing again. I don't want trailers for 4 or 6 games playing at the same time.

The autoplay feature worked perfectly fine in the past, but now it makes no sense. If I manually pause a video, I want that video to stay paused. There is no reason for Steam to decide when I want to unpause a video.

Yeah I don't know what happened to it. It seemed to change to something I didn't like but I don't remember the past behaviour.
