Discord intergration to Steam overlay

Discord being a part of Steam overlay could be an overkill to convenience, this could mean no more alt-tabbing out of a game (especially source games), and it'll be a fine addition to the refresh the Steam overlay got. No more leaving people on read because I was playing Hades!

I know Discord already has a game overlay feature, but in its current state, it's very tedious, buggy, and ironically more inconvenient than alt-tabbing out of the game to talk in the actual Discord app, and sometimes it doesn't even work in most games! (and for some reason it's using a very outdated UI which I presume the discord team stopped working on game overlay itself.)

I know it's not a snap of a finger to integrate Discord since there's probably a hefty amount of legal papers and work for it to be implemented. but it'll be wonders

Oh no…no…no…That would just give more validity to scammers who use Discord.

Scammer: “Hi, I’m from Support. Yes, Discord mods are approved by Valve. Heck, we’re even part of the official client. Now if you could just pass along your login details.”

Discord needs to stay as far away from anything officially Valve as possible.

I don't use discord, I don't want it put into Steam because of bloat. And not just it, you'd have every other person asking for everyone of their things like discord included into steam, so you'd have 10 or 20 different communications things that most will never touch.

Also there is enough problems with Steam users being tricked over on discord by scammers who tell them they are an admin for steam and they were reported and need to check out their account, so they need to hand over their login stuff so that they can check. Or what ever the scam is this week.

Valve has no connection to discord and it shouldn't have.

you make it seem as if it's a whole new top notch update of the year feature valve been working on for centuries lol, it's just a simple toggle to whether you want discord on steam overlay or not, more options means more choices.

also yea I cannot believe that lol, literally every person I know has discord. steam is made for games, just like discord is. soooo you can connect the dots lol

I'mm.. not sure if I understand this? I may have misunderstood this but this doesn't even make sense, why would discord influences scammers?

also in the nicest way possible, if you get scammed by obvious scams. thennn you're probably not old enough to use steam nor discord lol. hell steam even warns you several times in their app lol

also this may be a hot take but, steam messages are awful to me, they do the snapchat thing where it removes everything the moment you remove the chat, which is kind of annoying since there are some key aspect stuff I've sent to others that I want to revisit for reasons.

okay scammers will and always be a problem, you make it seem as if they can't already do that on the steam messages lol I mean granted I get where you're coming from, more communication = more scammers. but steam and (Pretty sure discord does too) keep giving out warnings to not give out personal info, stating that they won't ask for passwords or emails. so imma justt sayy thatttt it'sss kindaa on you if you fail on those lol

One of the most common Steam scams involve people getting contacted on Discord by scammers claiming to work for Steam as admins.

Integrating Discord into the Client is just going to confuse marks who’d assume it’s officially a part of Steam now.

Scammers/Phishers would love that. Discord is as it is already a big problem regarding stolen/phished accounts.

To be able to use it in the overlay would mean it would have to be built into Steam for it to do that. Meaning it would have to be added to steam, bloating it up with useless features. Now think of all the other programs that would have to have stuff intergrated into steam, bloating it up even more just to do what you want.

Also doesn't matter if its opt in or out its still already bloating up Steam.

You can use it without it needing to be included with steam. In fact its even better to not use it with steam. If Steam crashes, you are still connected with discord. If discord crashes its not taking steam with it.

With the new beta update people are already complaining about the extra ram and CPU it uses for all the extra bloat that was put in, that I very much doubt many people will use and there is no way for those of us who don't want that stuff to remove it.

What would be nice is modularity so that you can download modules of programs to include into Steam but wont bloat it up for others, but Valve won't do that as it opens up security holes and makes for trying to figure out bugs very difficult.

It is very much on the user if they fall for stuff and give over their info after Valve has given out many warnings about stuff like that. Problem is that a hijacked user account, doesn't just effect the user, it effects everyone because many will unknownly buy/trade for stolen stuff and its long gone before Valve can get involved.

People already know Discord and Steam have no connection yet scamming still happens, but if you add the connection, now scammers can fool more people.
