As mentioned nothing in the client requires 64bit, no it would not improve over all performance.
And no I don't want a "start movie" in the regular UI. I use small mode and don't want the performance hit and slower startup a "start movie" would cause.
No, it would not tank your performance in any noticeable way as it just an opening movie, or in the case of Steam implementing it, you probably get a disable option
There is nothing gained by putting it in the regular client, heck there is nothing gained by having it in big picture. My guess is the only reason its there is because the consoles have it. Which is just a waste of space and time on them.
I also never said it would tank performance, I said it would take a performance hit and slower startup. Even 1% slower is a performance hit, and I just don't want it. I use small mode for a reason.
While the core of the Steam Client is 32-bit the WebHelper processes are 64-bit. Most likely the core client is kept 32-bit for backwards compatibility, as there are numerous 32-bit Windows games on the Steam storefront.
