Add a ‘meh’ option on a review?
I’ve never liked the like/dislike option so I always choose ‘like’ even if it was meh and explain why.

Come to think of it, I’ve never in 30 odd years of gaming not liked a game outright.

I don’t think it’s right to discourage indie devs especially even if the game was pants.

We all know there’s really unreasonable people out there usually kids that pay 15 bucks for a game (that they prob didn’t even pay for) and play it for 30 hours and dislike the game on review. Developers shouldn’t be punished for entitlement issues..

Where else would you have spent 15 bucks for 30 hours of entertainment.

I can imagine with the current number of reviews on steam this may be a pain to switch up, but point is this isn’t a binary choice with all factors involved and there’s no middle ground currently to pick.

I consider a meh stance to be indifferent or neutral, so I wouldn't even bother writing a review.

But then they can't get attention or make number go up/down.

Indeed. The only truly "neutral" response is "I don't care" in which case, why write a review?

The question to me is really what DO you recommend that made you sit there for that long, then what do you NOT that made you walk away.

Note: This is within the refund window of 2 hours but i set it as 1.5 hours.

Recommended - a game captured my imagination and i continued to play.

Not recommended - i felt like i was wading through molasses with no end in sight.

Sometimes I not recommend to kinda poke the devs to fix stuff.
Somettimes I recommend a game just because it's a fascinatuingfever dream of a train wreck.
People have any number of reasons for recommending or not recommending.

Valve is not stupid... well, not THAT stupid. They know that such change would have an impact on sales so they don't want people to give their honest opinion about games like "this one is just meh". Recommended is much better than that, and when people feel divided about a game, many of them end up choosing the positive alternative.

Of course, you can write on your review that a game is just meh, but only 20 people will read that lol.

It has nothing to do with sales.

The question asked is a simple 'Yes or No' question.

Of course it has to do with sales. Valve will use a review and rating system that suits their wants and needs. Driving sales is a factor in that.

Honest opinion?

meh (not recommended) as in:

1) Used to express indifference, apathy, or boredom.

2) Expressing indifference or lack of enthusiasm.

You're being naive, my friend. It has everything to do with sales. Why do you think reviews exist, to begin with? To encourage people to purchase games. If you have a different theory, we're all ears.

It's a binary question which needs a binary answer.

As shown, people can elaborate in the review or just give it a negative review.

In fact, have a negative option and no middle option would be more hurtful in the long run.

Why did they choose a binary question?

If they wanted to completely encourage purchases, they wouldn't allow negative reviews.

The system isn't asking the user to review the game. It's literally just asking if they would recommend the game to someone else and why(if they choose to elaborate).

And they didn't allow negative reviews years ago.

They didn't allow any reviews.
