Gift Declines
You should get the gift back in order to choose to regift it to someone else instead of an immediate refund so that you don't miss out on a sale because of someone not wanting it, or in my case someone declining it by accident meaning I now have to repay full price because the game was on sale.

actually, the very thing that landed me on steam, about 10 years ago, was second hand key purchase from game stop. it was labeled on a cd but I couldnt use the cd, only the key. Pissed me off so bad.

there was also a whole thing about it, where they were trying to make it mainstream for them.

That's why Steam doesn't put keys in a user's inventory. Since developers or publishers would make no money from those transactions, they would just refuse to offer deep discounts for their games.

Again, incorrect, you guys just went on so many tangents you forgot what I said about all that (or just self filtered yourself and missed what I said). Again, they do make money from it because, again, gifted purchases from steam are first purchased. Which means money in everyones pockets. Why do you think games go on 'deep discount'? Certainly doesnt happen at launch, and usually not in the first year either. man, can you imagine someone launching their game at a 30 percent discount? let alone 50 or 80 percent. lol, theyd only have themselves to blame for wherever that goes.

I ignored nothing, but openly dismissed opinion pieces that are contradicted and a convoluted miscontrument of words, and have been very clear about this.

you are kind of borderline flaming right now.

Lets slice it off so people can understand how it works:

- User Abuys Game X key for 75% on authorised reseller, off sale, pays $10.
- Game creator gets $7
- Steam gets $3
- User A resells key on grey market store for $20 (50% off)
- User B buys key for $20
- Grey market gets $2,
- User A gets $18
- Game creator gets $0

You just demonstrated the game creator gets 7. You can ignore that in the trickle out, but thats 7 dollars they may not have otherwise gotten...

however, again, this isnt about grey markets... its about steam regifting. even if thats abused for sales, the slice would then become

- User Abuys Game X key for 75% on authorised reseller, off sale, pays $10.
- Game creator gets $7
- Steam gets $3
- User A resells key for $20 (50% off)
- User B buys key for $20
- User A gets $10
- Game creator got $7

Please stop being hostile constantly, Shinoskay.

GameStop wouldn't sell and open game that is only redeemable from a CD key. No used show does because there is no way to verify the key isn't activated.

They do no make money from the second sale. It also goes against Steam's SSA of using your account for commercial purposes.

It doesn't matter why or when a game goes on sale. The point still stands. People would abuse it(like they literally have) and developers would tighten up on sales knowing people are creating a second hand market that loses them future sales.

no, dude, stop derailing the conversation. like, I cant even, I dont know whether to laugh or growl... like, dude.

if you really wanted to talk to me about a concern you had with me, youd have pm'ed me... or even posted on my profile. so far, you arent blocked.

but instead you decide to make a post with ZERO relevance to the thread and have the audacity to say im the one being hostile. Just, dude.

all of you, why cant you guys just stay on topic, you guys are constantly trying to bring up irrelevant side tangents and nonsensical opinion arguments and strawman attacks about my character (not just you david, there were others who did this).

I think I've said all that there is to say now, you guys clearly would rather get emotional and combative rather then have an actual discussion.

If your store did that then they are breaking their own rules. There is a reason you can't search for used PC games afterall..... So if you had a specific store that did it that was not sanctioned by gamestop

You really need to read the link and article.... Very clearly states that they were looking into selling used games, and it never panned out because the EU ruling is in indefinite limbo and none of the sites that deal with registering of the keys is going to facilitate it.

In fact courts in both Germany and France recently have sided with steam AGAINST allowing used game sales.

You can literally pre-order starfield right now at a 20% discount on some sites, tis pretty normal....

You claimed a direct quote was a convoluted misconstrument of words. How is a direct quote that? That is the quote that is in the article I linked earlier.

We're locking this thread as it has devolved into non-productive argument. Thanks for your understanding.
