Valve has sold physical hardware multiple times before and for many years before the Steam Deck. They're not brand new to shipping physical goods. My concerns with ordering stuff online are often over the retailer themselves. The risks of shopping online from Amazon, eBay, and Best Buy are all very different because how these companies run their online business is very different.
I am just letting steam know that going to a store and buying a steam deck is much more thrilling then clicking a few buttons online and buying it via steam. also i think alot of people get a good feel walking out of a store with a box and having other people see them buying it, it creates nostalgia and draws in attention to the product.
Also, the lack of the 'thrill' of buying one in person hasn't stopped several MILLION people from already buying one. Their strategy is working really well so far and it's highly unlikely to change.
So if you want to buy something like that in person, you'll have to check out one of its competitors. I hear that the Asus ROC is available to buy at some stores.

Less then about 10 people own steam decks in my area, and also safe to say that because of competitors joining into the market steam deck is quickly losing purchaser appeal.
I am not sure where all the false information around steam deck is coming from.
1. there has not been millions of units sold
2. by steams own admission the user base is extremely low
3. reviews of the steam deck all support the fact it could of been manufactured better with users in mind to help safe guard the deck from accidents.
I am not sure why a billion dollar company has users worried about its profit, that is sorta suspicious.
this is a actual fact i recently reviewed about steam, in 2010 steam had only 2 million users.
now take into consideration that the inflated numbers all across the internet other major platforms
I think the real question is why are profits a concern when the product is failing to reach millions of potential buyers who don't purchase online.
The example i will give is how do you sell something for steam, to users who never used steam.
Answer is : you don't
3rd party only?
Yeah but at least with Amazon you will get it fast
So, not official and no warranty or RMA services?
Amazon are very generous with returns and refunds. I have had zero issues using them for hardware
