I'm hoping that once the Steam Deck 2 comes out that we could trade in the original Steam Deck for credit towards the new one.

And that is precisely why I'm waiting for Steam Deck 2.0 . . .more battery life, more Deck colors. I'm all in.

That is basically giving additional discount on the new steam deck + a thick pile of addtional operational costs on a GLOBAL scale (admin costs + thousands of hours labor costs + logistics for scrap/waste + added costs for storage & eventually industrial disposal for heaps of waste & a tiny tiny little bit for recycling purposes).

So a lot of work with only disadvantages..........

Yeah.... I kind of doubt they do this, not agasint the idea, just feeling this isn't your EB Games / Gamestop place for such thing. If they do it that be awesome, if not then yeah not much to expect really.

^This, or just list it online like craigslist, ebay, or etc, and see how much can sell it off for really.

.... you can sell your 2nd hand hardware basically everywhere for cents to the dollar, but that is something very different than an official Steam hardware trade-in in program :-/

Valve doesn't have the ability to take on that kind of responsibility. You can sell your Deck yourself and use the money you get towards the Deck 2 to the same effect though. Keep in mind a Deck 2 is still quite a ways away, so don't get too excited for it just yet.

Those kinds of systems aren't the greatest; some companies do have such a system but its queue based, slow, takes QC time, and relies on what you send in passing. As I'll say below, sometimes selling it to someone 2nd hand then buying the new one is better by minimizing how much you spend when the process is over. Especially if the item isn't available in a region you practically make the price for them, within reason which can easily pay for the next item or cover almost all of it.

When you consider paying for shipping, and any offset a company assigns to such a program, you're likely better off just selling as 2nd hand instead then buying the new item.

Especially the further away you are, or if you're in another country the cost for shipping alone would be quite extreme, Sometimes 2nd hand sales of a device is better so you spend less to get the same item all is said & done.
