The "news" section has become an advertisement platform for plushies and board games
Can you please ban these shady new marketing practices? There is hardly a game anymore that doesn't abuse its reach on steam to sell branded junk items.

That's fine? lol Those products aren't even sold on Steam.

I think the option to filter out non-game related news should be there. Yea it's the games merchandise but it has nothing to do with the video game product. It gets worse when people advertise crowd funding and donation campaigns.

The library page gets to the point that it has actual ads. It was bad enough when it was unwanted game news only before.

Doesn't the option to only show product updates achieve that? This one, I mean: https://imgur.com/a/BxqvXrX

Yeah, these are not even remotely shady, or even remotely underhanded, bad, or wrong.
In fact, it is rather insulting to claim that.

And makes no sense.

Abusing the "update / patch news" section of a video game on a video game platform as an advertising platform for your branded merchandise, knowing that all owners of the game will get it in their feeds, even though it's not related to any game updates at all, is very shady indeed. If that doesn't make sense to you, maybe that's a problem related to your sense-making capabilities. The least they could do is to advertise their ♥♥♥♥ in a sticky on the forum instead. It's not patch news. It's shameless and misplaced advertisement for other products, exclusively made by third parties who pay a fee so they can print a big name on their junk, which no sane person would normally buy.

The "what's new" shelf is not an "update/patch news" section. It's for game news in the broad sense, ergo news related to the game in question.

It's fine to want more option in it, sure. It's what has been lacking since the beginning. But it's not "abuse" that developers use the tool as it is intended.

Why would you claim it's the update/patch news section, when it is literally called the What's new section?!
That makes literally no sense.
Because it's not related to the game. It's just that they want to get a percentage for whoring out their brand to third parties, who want to sell garbage to simpletons and can only do so with a big name on their trash.

Lol, you people... Normally, companies have to pay good money to spam people with ads. You are LITERALLY asking for it.

Dude, you are literally making up stuff and ignoring that it is called THE WHAT'S NEW Section.
You cannot claim it bad to put stuff there that isn't patch notes.
LOL wut.

I'm not interested in them (albeit the plushies are cute), but it's hardly an issue for me. It's all game news and it's fine that it's there. But having more options so we can tailor what we see is always a good thing imo.

What isn't a good thing is wanting to remove something completely based on personal preference. Cause indeed other people exist that have different personal preferences.

Btw, does the option I linked in a screenshot earlier not remove those specific news posts?
"What's New

What's New is where developers of your games communicate about updates, tournaments, DLC, events, and other game news."

I know you're gonna claim that "other game news" includes any kind of advertisement for plastic junk with the game's name on it, even though it's not game related, only brand related. But that's really you being kids.

You're not making any sense here.
I am 40 years old, and literally no one can complain about this without being silly.
