GIFT NOTIFICATION
Steam, please change the way my friends get a notification of the gift i gave to them, the way it used to be was just perfect, and now, they dont even know when they've recieved a new game because nobody checks the notifications button, NO ONE DOES :steamfacepalm:

It also sends an email. Do they not check that too?

you could message them yourself.

i've only received 2 steam gifts before, but both times i noticed the notification as soon as it was sent.

but i do agree that the new UI's notification tray is less obvious than before - only lights up green rather than green + number next to it, and i've noticed most people tend to take a bit to notice stuff.

Yep, exactly. It was a lot better to have a window pop up saying "You received a steam gift!".

yeah, that does make it feel a bit more special.

i've only received 2 steam gifts: Once because I won an argument so the guy gifted me Journey (a game so nice, I'm gonna 100% complete it twice), and another a couple weeks ago when one of my friends gifted me the Master Chief Collection (which I've enjoyed quite a bit so far).

and seeing that window pop up when my friend randomly gifted me most of the Halo franchise was noice af - even moreso because i don't get steam gifts, so having one of my internet friends of all people go "yeah here's a game i bought just for you" is really special.

plus, it's not intrusive. We were playing Deep Rock Galactic when he gifted it to me, and in-game it just popped up a standard notification saying i received a gift.

you're also not gonna get gifts very often, so it isn't akin to the notification spam you'd get by subscribing to the update thread of a game or what have you.

no clue why it got removed.

The pop up notification was nice, and I preferred it. It ruins the fun of it that they aren't going to notice it right away, if at all, unless you tell them "you need to check your steam notifications". The steam gift pop up notification was the only pop up window I've ever liked.

I figured with the summer sale going on, that there would be more people commenting on this.
