i've only received 2 steam gifts before, but both times i noticed the notification as soon as it was sent.
but i do agree that the new UI's notification tray is less obvious than before - only lights up green rather than green + number next to it, and i've noticed most people tend to take a bit to notice stuff.
i've only received 2 steam gifts: Once because I won an argument so the guy gifted me Journey (a game so nice, I'm gonna 100% complete it twice), and another a couple weeks ago when one of my friends gifted me the Master Chief Collection (which I've enjoyed quite a bit so far).
and seeing that window pop up when my friend randomly gifted me most of the Halo franchise was noice af - even moreso because i don't get steam gifts, so having one of my internet friends of all people go "yeah here's a game i bought just for you" is really special.
plus, it's not intrusive. We were playing Deep Rock Galactic when he gifted it to me, and in-game it just popped up a standard notification saying i received a gift.
you're also not gonna get gifts very often, so it isn't akin to the notification spam you'd get by subscribing to the update thread of a game or what have you.
no clue why it got removed.
I figured with the summer sale going on, that there would be more people commenting on this.
