Add a "Play Random Game" button
As the title says. Click the button and it'll instantly launch a random game from your library.

You could fine-tune it to only launch installed games, or only pick games within a group in your library.

Do you want to be the one to program that?
Many users have no need or want for something like that.
would be easier to set up your own program to randomly spin a wheel to determine a game to play
Maybe without launching part. Just improve the damn Play Next shelf. Make random actually be random, with fine-tuning and customizing.

Yet many users have asked for Steam Roulette native tool for years. What we got is insultingly useless.
Count your steam games.
Open a chat box with any friend.
Use the slash random chat command.
Launch game of that number.

If the argument is that is too much work then think about the work to put a feature that wont be popular at all using paid employee time. It's not worth it.
This is one of those features people say they want, until they get it and it's like:
(Suggests random game) - Oh, I played that too recently.
(Suggests random game) - Oof, way too many long cut-scenes in that one.
(Suggests random game) - Blech, that's garbage.
(Suggests random game) - Meh, I was going to wait for the remake of that one.
(Suggests random game) - That one's more fun with my arcade stick, but do i really want to get it out of the closet?

Etc, etc, etc.

Yes, but it's still being used, as intended even :lunar2020contentgoat: People got what they want and are having fun using it or hating it or whatever.

The funny thing is it already exists in some form. They tried to implement it, then stopped not even halfway, and we got that abomination of a shelf. Maybe the employee got bored in the process of making it, or something. It's Valve, who knows.

I'm aware the request is a selfish one. I'm also aware that having a Random Game button won't solve the problem of overchoice indecision, or whatever you want to call the phenomenon of opening your steam library, looking in for a while, and clicking off somewhere else or launching a game you've already replayed three times. It's the same psychology as opening your fridge and declaring there's nothing to eat despite there obviously being perfectly good food inside.

Using a "Random" number generator might work if not for my library being divided and subdivided into over 70 different categories (genre, developer, etc).

idk man, sometimes I'm just tired after work, want to try something new, but don't know what to try.
People suggested it for years and all we got was the Play Next shelf.

https://steamdb.info/calculator/

Put your Steam ID profile (games list must be public) and it will calculate your account value. Then scroll down below and there's a box called "What about a random game?" If you don't like the suggestion, click on "I don't want to play this" on the box.

I remember the old Spring Cleaning events that had a similar randomizer which turned into the Play Next shelf. It was called the Spin Cycle...

Don't bump the thread I linked.

This was another oldie that I used to recommend to choose random games...

Oh, I know the feeling. I've got over 3,500 Steam games, and it's extremely likely there are many I will never play at all. What I sometimes like to do is move my scroll bar to a random point in my library list, then see if any of the games currently visible seem appealing at that particular moment.
