Seeing porn in and of itself doesn't bother me. It's the fact that the verification is inconsistent and doesn't protect you from NSFW content if there happen to be others around.
Fix it...
Turn off allowing adult content in your profile settings.
Games that ask for age verification do so because they are rated by the ESRB. Getting a rating isn't a requirement to be sold on Steam so a majority of the games do no have a rating which does not trigger the age verification.
If I get age verification for dumb pg13 games half the time and always for pg16 or higher then why doesn't it ask with porn? or better yet, it doesn't even ask when it's rated AND it's porn. so the profile settings does make it so ANY porn is NEVER asking for age verification... why not make it consistent then?
I still haven't seen any skin in Final Fantasy Origins and yet it asked for my age. There's multiple sex scene in the Witcher 3 and yet it never asked (also worse subject like drug, prostitution, murder, the ability to hit random peasant to death, etc).
So yeah, we ask for consistence. Personally I don't care which is chosen, so long as it applies to everything.
...also we already got a tag system both from user and from publisher. why not make it work and base the verification system on that? that would fix a lot of issues all at once.
The age verification is a requirement of the ESRB and only applies to games rated by the ESRB.
Being rated by the ESRB is not requirement to be put in Steam.
one has porn and no age verification, and drug, and free murder, and demons, and hard subject...
the other has age verification and the worse it has is killing evil incarnate. I think I saw a forearm?
can you guess which is which? that's right, Witcher 3 has porn and no age verification, still got an ESRB rating of pg16+
Stranger of paradise has none of that and is pg16.
Even your argument doesn't hold up, if anything Witcher 3 should have the age verification. but it doesn't. why? Because "adult" bypass everything and it has that exact tag. it's the ONLY tag that actually works for anything.
Yes I know, your argument is how it is MEANT to be. I understand that and you are absolutely right. So why doesn't it?
