Retailers are in charge of what products they want to sell, not Valve.
Are you in Canada?
in Canada yeah, online it says it happened in the UK too,
someone said they tried to get one for their nephew,
someone said steam has been saying its a malfunction problem but they were saying it for months in 2022
gift cards are necessary, i get gamers are all online but what about the ones who dont game and dont want a credit card? my gpa barley knows how to use e-transfer too so imagine him trying to gift via steam
idk if i tagged you or not
As mentioned, its not Valve stopping the selling of them, its the store you are buying them at that has decided to no longer sell them.
Posting here does nothing. Go talk to the store manager and ask them why they are no longer selling them.
My guess is that its one of a few things....
Either the higher ups in the corporation has stopped selling them at all the stores
Or
Store Manager doesn't see them selling many at all.
Or
They are just temp out of them and it takes time for their order to get filled and sent to them.
Or
They are having a supply chain issue. (over the last couple of years this was very true, but more recently this has been getting much better and not so much of an issue), could also just be a quality issue and they are changing how they are made (I had an issue where the letters and numbers pealed off part of it so I couldn't see what they were).
Or
They moved them in the store from where you usually bought them (this happened at a store I bought them at)
Or
There is another possibility but without knowing where you are at we have no idea if this could be it... you are in a country that is sanctioned, in which case Valve is not allowed to send any.
After all why would Valve stop selling something that gets them money and more then likely costs less then banking fees.
A lot of stores in Canada basically stopped carrying Steam wallet cards. People have been wondering for a couple years.
Probable reason...

All there would be your answer, because sometimes it can take longer to get something fixed or find a new maker then you think specially if all the other makers are already running near 100%, its not easy to add room to make more when you are already going nearly full out.
So no its not Valve discontinuing them as you suggested in the first post, it sounds like one of the things I mentioned above before you mentioned this, a supply chain issue but it has to do with the quality of them which I have personally had issues with them in the past but I haven't bought any recently.
It could be a simple as parts of the machine that makes them broke, and they are having problems getting parts for that machine.
All you can do is wait.
Oh ya and there is the stuff that Hotsauce mentioned, which I totally forgot about. There was some changes in laws and it was not good for some provinces.
Here in Nova Scotia, no issues, the cards are considered cash so taxes can't be put on them when we buy them at the store.
If this is the actual cause, then you have to go talk to your local government for that.
thank you for your input, i really appreciate it.
i have asked best buy why they didn't have it and it was cause it wasn't in stock, but its been awhile cause they don't have a place for it.. and still don't have it in stock
i also work at a grocery store that carries gift cards and lately they have been removing a lot of products off the shelf that haven't been coming in, tho i don't think they ever had steam cards the 4 years i worked there
Since you are seeing other gift cards removed, then that is more then likely the answer, that its because of law changes in your province.
Thankfully Nova Scotia closed that issue years ago.
i haven't seen other gift cards removed, no, just the steam cards,
i was talking about food products sorry
A 3rd party manufactures the cards, the retailer buys them from the 3rd party for sale in their stores.
They are still being manufactured by the 3rd party.
whats the 3rd party manufacture? im just surprised its just steam not being made... please tell me more..
and if that's the case then steam needs a new party
Fast Card is one of the companies that manufactures them along with other "store" gift cards.
There is 0% loss on the cards. Value is 1/1.
While its not 100%, it is very close. It cost a lot to print the cards, but by printing them in large numbers it pretty much brings the price down to a few pennies per card. Its not the 10% to 15% that you think it is.
Its actually far better deal than paying banking fees which is somewhere around 15cents to 50cents per transaction (which is why there is a 5 dollar minimum.
