Backup and restore 100GB+ games to one file.
Hi, with Forspoken being over 120 GB size the steam backup goes to 100GB in custom the file size option buy thats it.
It then makes a second folder which is nice but that makes restoring it harder.

I just restored Forspoken and it prompted me to load the second disk but i didn't know how to do it from steam save file so just let the last 20GB download from the internet.

Is there away of increasing the save file size beyond 100gb for big modern game we seem to have now or away to load the 2 files in restore.
Willl steam address the bigger save files we will need in the future?

Edit. i See the compression makes the file 99.5 GB and the 2nd one 5 Gb I like that. it compresses aswell thats kinda cool.

thanks.

It is far easier to copy, paste the game folder to an external hdd if you choose to uninstall.

You can then copy, paste the folder back and Steam will discover existing files when you click on install.

Steam will only download if anything has changed.

Or use the Storage Manager to move the game back and forth.

The issue with Storage Manager is that is not a backup feature. It moves games between drives without uninstalling them.

I see. With any luck steam will let us increase the backup tool save and compression size a bit for all these new game coming out.

The file size limitation isnt really that relevant as it just splits the files but it still backs up the entire game so there's no reason to change it really

The guide above gives you a tutorial on it.

The backup simply splits the backup into files that are "x size"

You will follow the guide above and basically point to the directory where you did the backup. inside there will be a 100GB file and a 20GB file. Heck you could have set the backup file size to 640MB if you wanted and have like 100 small files in that directory

It doesnt matter. Steeam will read 2 files or 100 files and restore the backup

You don't have to do anything other than "start the restore" steam does the rest

Which is fine. It doesn't need to be uninstalled.

+1 for new M.2 gen 4 motherboard slotted ssd hard drives. I can backup and reinstall 100GB in 6 minutes. That's amazing, love it.

The thread is backup and restore which Storage Manager does not do.
