"quite old" and "prevent confusion"
this is getting daft, lol

2 to 3 months since OP is "quite old"??
is no attention being paid to the context of the thread or the recent posts?

and just who exactly is getting "confused" enough that locking is of benefit to anyone?!

you ought to update to the Discussions Rules and Guidelines if you have some measurable limits, because currently it looks like you're making it up as you go!

Yeah, if they’re going to enforce a bog-standard “no necro” rule, the guideline language ought to reflect it.
Paid mods and context? Hahahahaha, you're funny, Psymon.
It's cute that you think they pay attention at all.

perhaps you might say it's "comedy gold"?
rest assured I'm well aware of the lack of consistency or context applied to anything moderators do, and it's not unique to "paid".

somehow Mods must fil their work duties and if thats means closing topics for being "too old", so be it.

They could actaully deal with the real stuff but that would mean that the folks couldn't collect the welfare check we pay for..
I do wonder, the general consensus is that they work on reports. So who is reporting all those threads when they're not even old? Discussion can easily continue after a month or two and it's something that should be allowed too.

After all, searching is something that is even recommended. If you find what you were looking for it's only logical that you add to it if you have a question or some additional information.
has anyone been so confused they needed a thread locked to stop the confusion?
So if you come up with an idea that someone suggested years ago and only got a couple replies you're duplicating by making a new thread? But if you reply to an old thread after using a search function topic just gets locked. Is there a definitive clarification for this situation?

correct,
lose lose
Don't really see the problem with it though, just make a new thread and link to the old one. Lots of things change so linking a 3 month old thread COULD be confusing and mods aren't going to know if the content being discussed is out of date or not.

that has brought ire before, so cannot take it as safe advice.

Source needed for that claim, i've never seen support punish anyone for creating a new thread on an issue that hasn't been talked about for months.

What I HAVE seen is them bringing punishment for re-creating LOCKED threads to bypass moderation.
They generally do pay attention to context. The thing is. if nothing new is being added. Then well...
