Note: you can quote other user posts and edit but not change the wording to reflect a different opinion.

Are you sure? It is possible to delete portions of quoted text, this is editing, and it can alter meaning.

PLEASE NOTE.

The Following quote has been edited for demonstration purposes and does not reflect what the author intended

This has happened to me recently. Something which needs to be addressed, I think.

If you quote me and only want a specific section you can.

For example:

But not as you demonstrated with:

Exactly so.

Which is a big problem. We all know what is right and what is wrong, but, some simply do not care if it suits their purpose.

I do not know how complicated it would be to prevent this happening.

The most noxious form of this type of editing is to quote a phrase out of context. The quote itself is accurate, but, divorced from the context a seemingly accurate quote's meaning can be distorted or even reversed.

Upper right corner of any editable post is a drop-down menu. That menu has options to edit or delete.

deleting the post that starts the thread, is only possible before a certain number of replies have been made.
after that threshold is crossed, you cannot delete the first post.
replies within the thread can be deleted at any time.

try this out by making a new thread, maybe in offtopic, or new to steam :D:

hope that helps.

Howdy, I just looked this question up myself as I couldn't see any edit/delete function.

For anyone who comes here wondering as well, make sure to refresh the page if you just posted a discussion. The auto review bot holds your post hostage for a few seconds so the buttons aren't there yet.

Thought it was kinda funny, just found this out the hard way after a ton of bad formatting.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
