The second and more pressing issue is someone such as Sony or MS allowing steam to be put on their console would lead to less sales purchased via playstation and xbox. With the logic you provided, if someone owns a pc version of the game they would receive a copy for the console which equates to loss in sales for both the console giants and developers as they'd receive no money from that copy that is given to the players. This also leads into sony/ms/etc getting their share of the cut from sales which will either have to come out of dev/pub's pockets, out of valve's or a price increase for games which comes out of the gamer's pockets and I'd be willing to bet the latter of those is what would occur.
Sony and Microsoft would never allow Steam on their platforms because they would view it as competition. If somebody buys a Steam game, why bother buying the PS5 of the same game? No financial motive from their point of view.
And Steam competes with consoles when it comes to friends list and communities as well - Sony and Microsoft want you to join the PlayStation and Xbox communities, not Steam community.
This is why ports are rough, both ways.
Nah, Steam is better than any console peasant's store. No store can't offer bumper sale like summer/winter sale.
Do you want to pay 100% hiked price for each product always?
It's not a fair deal for customers who have to buy multiple copies of games they already own, then have to rebuy those versions and any dlc or addons when they want it on any new console. A lot of people prefer buying on PC anyways because of legitimate reasons why it's better. Like not having to rebuy games for every new console on top of the 200$-500$ for the console itself. Paying for technology is bleeding people dry. We're not even given codes for games to make it more reasonable to use their services by just activating our game code, so we're forced to the only service we can use it on, which is whatever service we bought it on. Consoles are hurting themselves more by keeping their games exclusive. Allowing people to play Steam games on console would potentially bring more people to consoles if they were allowed to play their games where they chose.
Converting the scripting and controls would I think be part of what a program like that would do in the first place, since it would be specifically FOR converting pc games into console and reusing purchased games.
Why would Steam? More money.
Why would the gamers? To play games with no console ports from the comfort of their couches, and to save themselves money overall not having to buy multiple copies of the same game. Since they're screwing people over with bad business ethics making people do that in the first place since they know people aren't smart enough to put their money where their mouth is and will buy anything if it's good enough. Buying the same game 3 times for 60$ we'd be saving ourselves money in the long run. Companies with exclusive games spit on the fans who can't afford more than one console.
I had a game put out a remaster that overwrote the base game and the base game was no longer purchasable from the store even though I should have been able to redownload it for free. It's all online, why is it still functioning the same as the days of physical copies? Purchasing it one time should mean one time, I thought that was the point of purchasing games online.
Doing something like that could make gamers very happy. Imagine having the ability to finally play a game that previously had no console controller support on your ps4 or xbox one?
The alternative is people could live their lives instead of gaming and stop letting game companies try to squeeze money out of them with exclusives and monopolizing the gaming market.
Except steam literally CANNOT do this. Steam does not own the games. The developers and publishers could do this if they wish, but they have no reason to. Steam can't give out other people's games
Nor is it fair that developers are missing out on money for multiple copies of a game. I can't purchase orange juice from store A then go to store B and take a carton of it off the shelf for free because I paid at store A and not wanting pay for multiple copies of the same item. If you want a free copy of a game for another platform, contact the developers and ask for one.
Humble Bundle works exactly on this premise, though. You pay for a code, you take it to Steam or somewhere else and activate it, and you paid for the right to play it.
You pay for a game, you get that game. If they release a remastered version there isn't a promise you get that also for free.
Also again. not a steam suggestion. Steam can't do it, and developers already can if they wish.
You getting the same game on consoles IS asking for a free game. You bought a product on Platform X, you don't also get it on Platform Y and Z.
Yes you are. You purchased a copy on one platform and want another copy for free on another platform. Development wants to be paid for each copy sold, that is regardless if one person is purchasing multiple.
No, I paid for a copy on one platform and wish the companies would stop expecting me AND others to have to buy a game we already own all over again just to play it, or even forcing us into buying their product entirely to be able to play at all. I am allowed to have issue with the way companies do things. This is a discussion.
