IDEA: forced playstation icons
I use a 8bitdo pro2, and even though I have playstation checkmarked in steam, I still get crappy xbox/nintendo button prompts in all games. I want forced playstation prompts. so, there should be a toggle in steam to force games to make games think you have a playstation keypad so you get playstation prompts. triangle, circle, square, and X. I cannot stand the crap between xbox/nintendo with the switch. ps is better.

That's not something Steam can do. The game developers have to add the graphics for the button prompts into the game. Most don't, they use the Xbox ones as support for xbox controllers is native on Windows.

You'll haveta ask the developers of whatever game is lacking the corresponding prompts and ask them to add the missing icon layouts in, or look for an unofficial patch at PCGamingWiki that improves controller support.

Recent Yakuza-games allow you to toggle between the layouts at will, which I hope more future games will allow as well.

TWO of the games I play have playstation prompts. My buddies using PS5 controllers get them. But even with selecting playstation support in menu, I still get xbox prompts. My points stands.
OP may be asking to have Steam Input force a controller to be detected as Playstation, so Steam Input compatible games can use that info to display PS prompts.

Which isn't up to Steam. The 8Bitdo controller doesn't get detected as a playstation controller and gets labeled appropriately.

Outside of that, it's up to he devs.

Steam Input does detect certain controllers as Playstation, so it is still up to Steam.

8Bitdo is not one of them. It doesn't use the PlayStation input API like the actual Dual Shock controllers.

Steam can't force it to do the PlayStation input because it is a completely different input outside of Direct or Xinput.

LMAO, its just as bit of code saying "hey, this is playstation". there is 100% a way for steam to have spoofing so the game thinks you are using playstation and gives you said input prompts.

Not how that works.

But you established that thinking steam can force a game to show certain prompts.

Pretty sure the games that show PS icons do so via the Steam Input API. If not, show me in the Steamworks documentation.

Steamworks has the ability to show PS icons if the proper API is implemented into the game. It cannot emulated a PS controller to trick a game.

There was a while discussion about it with wanting the Deck to have DualShock emulation for controls.

Also, there are some games that do show PS icons but it isn't through Steam, it's built into the game.

Games have to natively support PS prompts and be coded by the developer into the game.

One such game is Prey 2017 which shows thd correct prompts when the appropriate controller is connected.
