"Immortalizing" a Steam Account
Back in June, one of my best friends Michael (Steam Profile Micboo), suddenly passed away from Sudden unexpected natural death at the age of 18. Him and I (plus a couple others) were devoted gamers over the last 6-7 years. Whether it was GMod, CSGO, Dayz, or Dota 2 countless hours were poured in, enjoying every second of it. His favorite game was CSGO, a game where my skill level never got better.

My idea so to speak, it to immortalize someones account in a way where it stands out from any ordinary profile. Something as simple as an exclusive background that the developers can only apply to his profile or a badge that is dedicated to someone who put in hundreds of hours into a community they truly cared for.

For those who might question how to authenticate whether someone is eligible, seeing when the account was last online could be a start. Later, the developers could maybe lock the account or "freeze it"

But anyway, this is really me and all of my friends last gift to our friend who had a passion for gaming, all of us would really appreciate any support. Thank you.

In the case of the deceased, provided that he has a will and he provided a next of kin, there isn't much to trail on since nobody would be allowed to touch the account since it violates the SSA.

@Si-Fi what if they were granted permission by the parents to gain access to the account?

Only if his parents do have access to the account, they can simply lock it but anything further than that, they may try contacting Support and provide proof.

"Only if" it was bequeathed, contact a lawyer and have them go through the proper legal channels.

according to steams eula, the account is void now. they can terminate it if they find out someone else is using it.
accounts are untransferrable, even in case of death

People have very skewed priorities.

@M being that Ive already done things in the last 8 months to help my friends family cope with the tragic event, this is something that I thought he would appreciate as he spent a lot of time gaming. Im sorry if you see this as wasteful but to the people that knew him, it means something.

Yes how strange to want to memorialize a friends profile... pretty sure they've been doing this on FB and other places already. It's not a new idea.

I'm sorry about your friend and I agree, if anything it should be a security feature to lock down accounts of the deceased so they can't be used by scammers. There's no one to recover those accounts so it makes sense from a security perspective. It also would prevent people from handing down their accounts... which again is against the rules.

In addition, people that cared about them can have a nice little memorial on Steam where they likely met and spent alot of time.

In the end, the people they knew online don't have a "grave" they can go to, to pay their respects, reflect on memories, etc.. You know. Being human. So let's do that.
