No, I haven't. Thanks for the idea. :)
Oh really? I hope it works if you try it again, and you just happened to miss files. And yeah I was gonna take a more precise approach to the copying, but honestly wanted to take a hammer to see if it even worked. Maybe I'll try and find a way to diff-check it or something, so I can see exactly what was different. But since that will change per game, I might not.
I am also playing Sekiro haha, it's quite good. Also quite hard. They weren't lying that this game will be difficult even with being able to resurrect. Really makes me in the mood for Ghosts of Tsushima, and Nioh 2 though. Can't wait for them.
@Si-Fi: Sorry would you mind clarifying on what switcheroo you're talking about? Is it DarkStarSword's fix? Because no I have not. As it seemed to work without doing so.
And not to disparage your idea, I appreciate the help. But I don't see how synching save files would make free DLC permissions work or not. As I think it's linked to some type of entitlement with the actual account on Steam's end. Now I could definitely be wrong, as I wasn't expecting much from DarkStarSword's fix either. So willing to try if it's something other than DarkStarSword's fix, as that seemed to work fine.
Thank you for the suggestion regardless.
I know this is a little off-topic from the main point of this thread, but YES! The game is hard! lol I know it says I have many hours in the game, which I do, but much of that is me dying and trying different strategies for bosses. lol And looking for alternate paths and secrets. I played DS on PS3 and a little of DS2 (haven't tried DS3 yet, nor Bloodborne) and I really dig Sekiro so far. Excellent and challenging series. I've got to say, the satisfaction from FINALLY getting that boss down.... You just can't beat that. lol
You can disable the update process and cloud.
Backup the old directory then
copy over the directory w/DLC included.
I've been able to do this a few times.
@pxfbird: Haha yeah the game has quite a few nook and crannies to explore, and mini-bosses and bosses are going to kill you frequently. Also farming can eat into that time as well. The exploring is something I like, and sort of dislike as a difference from other FromSoftware titles.
Sure you should look around on Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Demon's Souls, but you can do so without usually having to look around over every cliff edge haha. Sekiro makes a little more difficult to navigate/explore a new area, because of how much traversal can happen. As it's still a linear game, but less so than others.
Did you ever play Demon's Souls? Personally enjoyed it the most out of all the Souls titles. I've played every one of those titles, and I think that Sekiro might be the hardest of them. As it doesn't allow for mistakes the same way the others do. If you dig the difficulty and honestly the whole vibe of Sekiro, you should check out Nioh, as Sekiro feels like FromSoftware's Nioh.
The satisfaction and relief when you kill a boss or mini-boss or half-boss(?) on Sekiro is quite deep yes haha. I never really felt that, that much on the other titles. And honestly I sort of felt embarrassed that it took me that long, or it was that hard. As I felt like there was a pattern and a way to beat them. On other FromSoft titles when you beat a boss, you usually do so like an expert, with barely getting hit, etc. You finally figured it out, and end up crushing them. On Sekiro, that is not the case. Almost every boss or mini-boss I end up beating by the skin of my teeth haha. And it amplifies that reward feeling. It's definitely something.
I actually have played Demon's Souls, but I didn't like it as much as Dark Souls. I actually got a bit bored with it. I really do need to try it again because I don't feel I gave it a fair shot as I was playing other games at the time. My PS3 bit it when I was about 3/4 of the way through DS1 and I hate starting over when I have my character exactly as I want and on the first playthrough. So my save is trapped on that console (save didn't get backed up to Plus, as is the fate with some other games) until I fix it. But I have a huge backlog of games so it just sits on the backburner. lol
My bf is a huge fan of both Demon's and the Dark series. I don't know how many times he has played Dark Souls 1-3 over and he made sure to have them on both PS3 and PC. lol Sekiro was a pre-order for him, but I've played more so I'm farther in than he is. bahaha
Sekiro definitely lets me know how much my timing sucks on counters. lol Makes me miss my shield and spear on DS. lol Hmmm.... sometimes I feel like we are just toilet paper squares for Sekiro's bosses.
Haha same here on hating to start over. It's different if you've beaten a game, and want to play again. But starting over otherwise is usually something I never do. Even if it's only like 10 hours into a massive RPG. I just don't like doing it, because I know I'll be rushing and miss things this time around that will affect me later. It's what happened with me and Deus Ex Mankind Divided. Lost my save, and damn if I go through it all again. Even though, if I would have beaten it; I probably would have gone through for a good guy/non-lethal playthrough or something.
And yeah, too many games, and too little time is a very real problem gamers suffer from. Would be great if someone figured out a time-stopping device, just so we could finish our backlogs lol.
It seems like if people are fans of those titles, then they're massive fans. I enjoy them, but they're not the second coming like it seems to be for others haha. Although honestly I don't really do that with any game, as there's almost always something else I want to play. Like I have a friend who's beaten the Uncharted games (all of them) about 10-20 times at least. He loves them. I just don't get how that's fun personally.
I'm surpirsed that he hasn't played as much of Sekiro then, just busy? Or not a big fan this time?
Haha, my problem seems to be being too defensive. If you don't get your licks in, they'll just keep wailing on you. But then when you get a little offensive and get a good tempo going. Bam, sweep attack...I can deal with the thrust attacks easy enough, but it's the sweep attacks that throw me off. I'm not used to jumping in the middle of combat haha. And unlike thrust attacks, you can't deflect them.
Thankfully Sekiro is a lot more generous with it's parry timing than one of the Dark Souls (I believe 2?). So I personally don't have too many issues with it. Unless I just keep pre-empting the attack, because they sometimes take forever to swing lol.
Always wanted to like the spears on DS, but just seemed too weak to me. I built tanky, and strong haha. Greatsword in one hand, and greatshield in the other. With heavy ass armor. Although that became seemingly increasingly less viable on later Souls' titles. But Dark Souls 1, I liked it.
Lmao especially if you're under-geared, and under-leveled for Lady Butterfly, that was fun. Even when I came back significantly better prepared, it was still quite tough. Also unless you had unlimited Snap Seeds, I don't get how they were meant to really help much. I ended up doing that fight without them at all. Take that Inosuke.
He works nights and has just been too busy to get any real playtime in. He could have played this weekend, but has been watching some movies and getting other stuff done. lol It's hard, though, because I keep wanting to tell him about bosses I've encountered and I can't. I want him to be just as surprised as I was by Headless before you get to where you can acquire the Bell Demon. lol And yes, I am currently trying to get through Lady Butterfly, but it's not going too well. I am underpowered for sure. lol
I like a light, agile character. I did enjoy watching the bf fat rolling in some of the armor he had, though. LOL He likes to watch some of LobosJr's DS series runs on YT.
Ah that sucks, hope he gets to play sometime soon. As personally this is the best FromSoft game they've done yet. And I hope it lays the framework for future titles. And yeah I get that feeling, have friends I have to do that with as well all the time. As I don't like spoiling anything. More than they seem to, like a friend that hasn't beaten Last of Us, and now Last of Us 2 is coming out. And I'm the one getting upset they're getting spoilers from just seeing things in the trailers.
Haha yeah that was intense. I was so cautious when approaching them for the first time, and then scared the next how many attempts it took before I won. As they are quite tough. And the terror was terrifying haha. Thankfully it wasn't as bad as I was expecting from the note talking about them. I expected Dark Souls level of difficulty (i.e. only able to be hurt a certain way), but that isn't the case. Still hard regardless though lol.
Haha I definitely recommend coming back later if you want to. Keep continuing the Ashina Outskirts and try to get some prayer beads under your belt and more attack power. It does really help. Did you have as much trouble as I did with the Shinobi Hunter monk before the Drunk and all of them?, they were a pain to deal with.
I swore (ha) that there was a way to remove the profanity filter. Not gonna start a crusade on that too, but it is ridiculous. I can see full on adult games, but not a little swear?
Which by the way, they made it look worse than it is. I just said a different word for butt. That's it.
Haha yeah had to like that in Dark Souls 2, as they made heavy armor seem useless, and in Dark Souls 3 because of the poise bug/non-bug-that-they-then-fixed-way-later-but-not-a-bug.
Lmao yeah fat rolling is funny, and useful at very rare moments if I remember right. However I always tried to stay at 70% weight, so that I never did. And only would don my heavier armor, when I had the ability to do so without fat rolling. Best of both worlds in my opinion. Hard to hit, and when I do, barely feel it. Not that Dark Souls ever let you get that tanky.
That a fat rolling "expert" Youtuber or something? Sorry, no idea who that is haha. Only person I really watched play Dark Souls was Rurikhan.
Anyone reading, please post there as well should you be inclined. That way multiple threads can maintain front page status, and thus have a higher chance of getting noticed by Steam/Valve.
I loved the Last of Us! Great game!
I still haven't beaten him! I tried being real sneaky the first time I spotted him. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, that didn't work out at all. lol
I got the Shinobi Hunter my second try... I didn't have too much trouble with him, but I'd explored around and got some upgrades. The Drunk I took a few goes. I ended up killing all the other dudes, then working on him. lol Still working on that General-looking dude before the giant snake, which was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome!!
He does all kinds of different challenge runs in the Souls games. Some are very impressive. He had one that was called "Always Fat Roll, No Leveling Run". lol
Yeah it was fantastic. One of the best stories in gaming, and God of War did a good job emulating it I think. Not gonna get into spoilers or specifics here, but just the fact that Last of Us 2 showed some things, already spoils Last of Us, based on some parts of the game. Which is why it upset me that my friend saw these Last of Us 2 trailers without beating Last of Us. The suspense is gone on some aspects, if that makes sense.
Yeah it doesn't seem like you're able to sneak up on them no matter what. Even with Gaichiin Sugar. Tried that same approach like twice too lol.
I recommend using Divine Confetti and Ako Sugar if you can as both make taking him down quicker. Try staying behind him, and parry his slower attacks. I personally start running and don't mess with his circular sweep attack. Which right after he teleports behind you, and if you're close, he will grab you. And it does a ton of damage. So I personally just run around until he's back, and try to take him down again. Also don't recommend running too far away from him, as I'm sure you've seen. He has a ranged attack, and it is not nice haha.
Also just in case you haven't had it happen. Do not let terror build up fully, as it's instant-death.
Oh really? That's good haha, I had a good deal of difficulty. But yeah I immediately kept going with the Hirata Estate, instead of going back and getting anything else. Might have made a difference, but I just think he was a counter to how I played. Don't think he'd be a problem now, as I've gotten very used to the Mikiri Counter, but who knows.
Haha same here. Think it only took me two real tries (tried to stealth like twice, and ran when it didn't work haha) on him. Unfortunately I wasn't able to save that guy that assists. He died just before I beat him :(. Don't know if that matters or not.
Are you talking about Gyoubo Oniwa? The guy on the horse? As yeah he was kinda tough. Firecrackers and the Grappling hook attack skill work well on him. And yeah that Giant Snake was awesome haha. Was amazed to see it happen, and it felt organic as I had no idea it was going to happen. Think I stood still for like a full 2 minutes watching it, just to make sure if I should move or not. Was intimidating haha. Loved it. Felt like a God of War (only put spoilers for context, as I don't want someone knowing that it was a large creature) moment.
Ah he's one of those guys, ok. Haha yeah some people are crazy at those games. Know people have done bare fists, no armor runs, etc. Rurikhan has done challenge runs like that as well. Kudos to them for doing it.
It's unfortunate when they do that with sequel trailers. I understand that those are more for us that have played/watched the first game/movie, but it can ruin it for those that haven't. Why hasn't he played the first one? lol
I had tried getting behind, but he'd teleport and then the terror took me down pretty quick. I'd also tried Divine Confetti and one of the sugars.... I don't know if it was the Ako. At this time, I must still just be too underpowered. lol It's gonna be so satisfying, though, when I do get him down. lol
I sneak attacked for the first Deathblow so that helped a lot. I did the same with the Chained Ogre and pretty much any mini-boss/boss that I can be stealthy with. lol
Yep, I tried saving him and failed, as well. I looked it up and it doesn't seem to make a difference to the game. Just some extra lines of dialogue. There is even some if you kill the guy yourself.
I'm at him, but I was talking about the one before the Snake, General Yamauchi. I had to look up his name. lol Gah, my timing sucks on this game. You can easily bypass a lot of these mini-bosses, but I like to Kill Em All. hahaha
I don't know how they have the time to play a game over and over and over like that, but definitely props to them. I know for bigger YT and Twitch gamers, it is their livelihood. Most games for me, I go through once or twice, then move on to the next. lol I do like to watch some challenge runs, though, for tips. Like some of the hardcore ones for RE2: Remake. I'll have to check out Rurikhan.
Yeah there's really no way they could have gotten around it, and I tried to warn him when I heard rumblings of the sequel. But he just hasn't gotten around to finishing it, and no amount of prodding by me helped haha. But I also have a way better (unfortunately) memory for spoilers than him, so it's entirely possible it hasn't ruined anything lmao. It's why I hate trailers for movies, they just give almost everything away. It's very annoying.
He turns quite slowly, so if you can circle his right. You can stay behind him a little easier. Get little pot shots in, and then keep moving. But really it might come down to playstyle, and that might not fit yours. The best tip I can give, is to make sure that once he starts spinning, is to keep moving until he reappears. That spin attack is very dangerous, and so is his teleport grab.
Ako Sugar is the one that boosts your attack power. It's the red candy.
Yeah definitely possible, and I might have been too. But I tend to beat my head against the wall trying to overcome things sometimes lol. Hard to tell what "level" you're supposed to be when fighting some things. As I can definitely think of things that would make that fight easier than what you have available right now. Good luck if you attempt him again.
And yeah it was haha. That's one of the great things about that game. Which is why (and not to rant too much) I don't understand the stupid meme about the guy saying "you cheated yourself" on that journalist cheating the final boss. He was right, you did cheat yourself out of that feeling of accomplishment. I died a lot to the final boss, and when I finally beat the boss (and this time without dying even once, or getting hit that much), it felt amazing. I was proud of myself, and happy I pulled it off.
Oh yeah by the way, I beat the game, w00t. Started my second playthrough already, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ am I covering ground. Done what took me like 40+ hours in about 3-4 (took me like 80 to beat for reference). Haven't been dying to any of the bosses or mini-bosses that owned me before or anything. Feels great haha.
It's just sad that we have this culture around games, that you shouldn't try too hard, or take them as a serious art form. And we ridicule the ones that do, like a bunch of children "haha you cared about something in a VIDEO game!". Somehow in this twisted world, it's pathetic to say you robbed yourself of enjoyment and that sense of accomplishment by cheating. But not by cheating and bragging you did it? Makes no sense to me. And this isn't to rail on people who are worse at games, or who have a different idea of "difficulty" (as I'm sure I look like a scrub to some people). But cheating is always cheating, and you shouldn't brag about it like somehow you're a champion of those who don't want to try.
Yeah so did I
Oh well that's good to know, but those extra lines of dialogue are enough for me to try and save him from dying this time. I do a lot for dialogue in games haha.
Oh ♥♥♥♥ sorry, I hope I didn't spoil Gyoubo Oniwa? for you or anything. As far as he goes, if you're having trouble timing the parry on his attack. Maybe try doing the jump counter when he does his sweep attacks. Because if I remember right, he does them relatively often. Might be a safer and easier way to handle him, and you can get a couple swings in on the way down. Also just an FYI in case you didn't know. Holding guard replenishes your posture faster than just standing there. The exact opposite of all FromSoft games haha.
Nice Pokemon reference haha. And yeah, same here. None shall pass Kusabimaru's judgement. It wants to be the best Katana there ever was.
Yeah same, although since it is their job. I guess that's how/why they find the will and time to do so. Even still, I don't think I could. So some part of it has to be a genuine drive to play it over and over. Might just be they're not interested in other games, but love games and want to play something I guess? I'm interested in so many, that I don't ever do that. I just wish I was better at finishing them haha, so many almost completed games :(
And I like Rurikhan because he just seems like a really honest guy, and that's nice. When so many other personalities put on a personality and over-react, yell for no reason, etc. Same reason I like CohhCarnage. They seem honest, and not douchey really. Not to disparage anyone's taste or anything, I get the idea behind why they do it. But just not my thing. That being said, Rurikhan is not a "chill" guy haha. And that's what's great. It goes back to the whole "afraid to try" thing I talked about. He isn't, and isn't afraid to let you know he cares and it bugged the ♥♥♥♥ out of him. He gets salty, just like a real player does.
If you do watch him, be amazed that he is a non-native English speaker. He speaks it better than most native speakers do haha, and really doesn't have much of an accent either. It's incredible.
