125 million to 300 million accounts
8 to 13 million accounts active at any one point in the day
300 to 400 people who work for valve
At one point 77,000 accounts every month were being hijacked, and many of those people would contact steam support and it takes more then a few seconds to deal with hijacked accounts.
This is why getting a response from support is not instant and can take a while. And that is why having any kind of live/call support would never work on steam.
Also the 77,000 possible support messages just from the hijacked accounts is on top of all the other support messages for other stuff thats being sent and all the spam messages too.
This is why if there was "live" steam support, when you call or start it up in steam, on the very first day, minutes after it first opened up, it would go something like this....
"Thank you for contacting Steam live support, your call is important to us, you are number 2,003 in line, please be ready with your question once a support member is available. Your wait will be approximately 3 week and 5 days. Please stay on the line."
I really hope you have a good cell phone battery or there are no power failures while you are waiting. And of course you don't need sleep do you? Cause if you are asleep when they come online to talk to you, well they will just skip you and go to the next person and you will have to wait in line all over again.
If people would stop making multiple tickets for the same problem and be paitent, you wouldn't have to wait days.... Instead they submit tickets over and over because they didnt get a reply within an hour
Account Recovery
Make sure you are completely logged out of Steam before you start the recovery process

When doing an account recovery, do not try to rush thru the process. Trying to rush thru normally results in information being missed and time wasted. Take your time and read everything.
Here is a guide that another Steam user was kind enough to make. It will help you navigate your way thru the recovery process if you are having any problems.
