Remove steam gift restriction from region free 4-packs cd key.

Long story short. Whatever cd key with gift copies entered in gift restricted region. The gifts comes with the cd key will become restricted. Regardless of the key is region free, NA, EU or whatever region it is.

Let's not talk about the Steam store. I know the lock is stop people from buying cheap gifts.
But why even a cd key from "first world" will also give region lock to the gifts comes from it? I don't get it.

If you're talking about 4 pack cdkeys, they'd still be region locked in your inventory if you redeem them from a restricted region. The reason behind this is cause it's determined based on your account's location and currency.

You redeemed the key there so steam assumes you own the gifts and the game, as if you bought them from steam store, so if your region is restricted your gifts are restricted as well.

The article says "There is no standard or universal restriction placed on retail games.". While the reality is there is a universal restriction for it. (as for the gift copies in the package)

The cd key I got is directly from the publisher's staff. Do you think they will set the key restricted to a region that they don't belongs to?

the cdkeys you got aren't region locked themselves, but the gifts that come with it are cause the key was redeemed in a restricted region, the same thing would've happened if you bought the 4 pack from steam store. You can't bypass region lock by purchasing cdkeys instead of buying the 4 pack directly from steam, cause your region is restricted.

Back to the topic, why would steam doing that? As retail product has nothing to do with their steam store and even their support article says "Region restrictions on CD Keys vary by each individual publisher. There is no standard or universal restriction placed on retail games." (which is not true)

Retail Cd-keys are restricted by the publisher not steam.

Staem has more or less gotten rid of 4-packs anyway so the point is moot

that's right, the cdkeys are not region restricted, but after they're redeemed they're part of steam. So the rules of gift restriction apply to your gifts. If the key was restricted you couldn't even redeem it. then again doesn't matter if you got the 4 pack from steam store or some other place, the rules apply nonetheless . the only difference is where you got it from

"Gifts purchased in certain regions can be redeemed only in those regions. When you purchase a gift you will be notified at checkout of any restrictions that will be placed on the gift"

when you redeem the key, that means you purchased the game in that country
why does this rule exist? cause valve doesn't want people to abuse the price difference between countries.

Steam doesnt set what cd-keys can or cannot do. only the publisher does that. You'd better give actual concrete examples since what you cliam is counter to how RETAIL keys work. I've also never heard of 'retail' 4-packs of anything

There are 2, 3 and 4 pack cdkeys.

And the result is. Steam Support doesn't believe anything of it, claimthe key is region locked and told me "unable to assist you further with this issue". what a waste of time for both of us.

I note a distinct lack of actual concrtete examples of this despite asking for it months ago
