Ability to HIDE or DELETE your badges (or convert them into gems)

It's all about cleaning your profile. Sometimes you craft a badge that looks ugly on your profile, sometimes you craft a badge of a dumb game, sometimes you craft a badge and simply want to get rid of it times later, sometimes you collect badges and don't want to show it - you're a private collector. You are able to craft badges freely, BUT you can't undo it, not even deleting and loosing de exp. It's like a permanent karma or stain.

Steam should let us to control our profiles better. We should be able to hide or delete the badges we don't want anymore, or even converting them into gems (small compensation). Maybe you don't want to make your whole profile private, you just want to make it simple and clean.

After deletion, may Steam remove the experience earned from crafting as well. There is clearly no chance of abuse.

You may ask: why the hell you crafted the badge, in first place? Well, nowadays Steam allow us to permanently remove games from our accounts - and someone asked the same question for that matter when Steam didn't allow you to remove games (why the hell you bought the game, anyway?). Its the same logic, Steam recognizes WE CAN REGRET THINGS - they even refund you if you dislike the game. That logic should be applied to badges.

Also, we should be able to hide our level - there are several reasons for that, use your imagination (maybe you don't wan't to show you super high level and look addicted).

If you want to solve this issue, just spend a few cents and get 4 great looking badges or whatever. Set one as the highlighted badge and all 4 of them will be in the recent badges (the 4 badges displayed on your profile besides the highlighted one)
From there on dont craft anything else or participate in steam events if you dont want those badges and the only thing that can change is your years of service wich will pop as the most recent badge every year.

Would solve some of the mentioned problems. Won't solve the problem of not wanting any stupid badges at all whatsoever.

Except it would de-incentivize people to level up their account to earn a profile showcase they could use on the Badge Showcase to display the badges they want to show off. If Valve let you pick the four badges that display there, it would be a free badge showcase which they aren't going to allow.
If you want to display specific badges on your profile, other than the Feature Badge, you have to level up your account and use a showcase. As for the four recent badges being displayed, the best I can imagine Valve adding an option to hide them from the profile if the ones displayed bother someone that much.

There's plenty more reason to level up anyway than just badge showcases, I guarantee they won't lose a dime from adding this option.

But they aren't going to give you what is essentially a free badge showcase. So the only customization they would add would be a way to turn it off. So if you don't want it, you can turn it off. If you do, or just don't care, leave it on.

Right, which is exactly what we're asking for in this thread if you read the OP. We want to hide or delete badges.

Wish so many changes on Steam lately, I really want they to make possible to hide our badges and lowering the level when deleting a badge, even if we get nothing in return - gems would be nice, though. I'll be very disappointed if this doesn't happen.

Please give us the ability to remove certain level of badge. Maybe make a system to buy something that you need in order to remove badge? If you can't add it otherwise.

For instance if I have brought 3rd level of a badge accidently i can remove it and get level 2nd badge.

You can't accidentally buy a badge level. Badges have to be crafted, one level at a time.

And there are resources online where you can view all levels of a badge so if you are really all that concerned about what a particular badge/level looks like, do your homework on it first. Once you have the badge at the level you want, sell/trade/convert any remaining cards so there is no chance to accidentally press the 'craft badge' button.
