Sourcemods alternate install location.
As you may know the default install location for sourcemods MUST be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods or else Steam won't find it, as my C: is getting full and I have my 2nd HDD only for games I would like to have sourcemods games there too. Alteast make it so it searches for "sourcemods" folder on other hardrives too.

create a shared volume on the c drive.
1. shrink the c drive
2. create a new drive letter that links the the new volume on the bigger drive.

Meanwhile I use symbolic links.

I put my Sourcemods on D:\ and removed the sourcemods -folder from under C:\ -disk's steamapps\ -folder

Then I booted up CMD
mklink /d "C:\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods" "D:\Games\Source Mods"

Now Steam picks up my Sourcemods on the D:\ -disk, while the client itself is installed on C:\.

That seems much better, thanks.

there could be a problem if the destination gets changed and the link gets corrupted by the internet.

Hello, this is a really old discussion but when i put that line into my CMD it says I am not authorised enough to do that, I don't have any parent locks or alternate profiles on my pc, any idea how to fix that?

run cmd.exe as admin from the right-click menu.

Make sure you have the full path listed. For me, I had to do "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods". It probably didn't work for you because you forgot to type in the Program Files the Steam folder was in. Hope this helps!

Isn't this just "create shortcut" with extra steps?

You just replace the C drive's sourcemod folder with a shortcut to your other drive's sourcemod folder and it's basically the same thing.

oh my god this was a livesaver. after searching and testing stuff myself so much THANK YOU. Fortunately, I had plenty enough room in sourcemods for the mods I wanted. It's weird, but only the mods are installed in C:/ for me while everything else is installed in D:/

Nevermind. SMOD : Tactical still won't run right. It's on the list and it starts, but it can't pull all the resources it needs... and it glitches out probably because of that. missing textures, missing elements.. big, red error signs everywhere. I can't fill my C:/ just because old mods can't point at the correct game path...
Didn't work pls help
