Animated Joseph Stalin profile avatar sold in points shop is no better than an animated Hitler avatar.
My mom bought a bootleg Joseph Stalin shirt from China once. It was a goofy souvenir because I couldn't imagine it ever being sold in America...

But now here we are with Valve selling an animated Joseph Stalin profile avatar in the points shop. This man is *literally* responsible for more deaths than Hitler. Why is this allowed?

My profile avatar is what I am talking about. It's weird and it's not cool to be on the market.

It's from a game you own about Communism.... seems appropriate. It doesn't break any rules or laws.

These people existed. Pictures of them existed. I'd rather live in a world like that than in a world where the very image of someone can be taboo. I mean that's like level 3 dystopia.

I am not against the picture existing. I am against being able to buy it as your avatar.

Do you two feel the same if it was Hitler? Should we be able to buy an animated Hitler avatar?

I see no reason why not.
I don't deal in irrational fear and hatred.
They were terrible people. They did terrible things and they died. History is literally full of such types. In fact the most terrible people seem to be the ones that get into the history books.

OP. I suggest for your own mental health that you do not look too deeply into the Steam catalog.

I agree with your point to an extent, not that these avatars should be removed necessarily but that if Hitler is disallowed but every other genocidal maniac is, then clearly there is a line somewhere and it's probably not being enforced evenly.

The problem is, where and when does it end? Nobody is going to have a problem with Julius Caesar or Ghenkis Khan despite their own atrocities, are they? How old does a figure need to be where it becomes scceptible? At a point its just better to allow everything then make arbitrary lines in the sand.

E: to be clear I'm not sure if Hitler is banned explicitly or not, or just that nobody wants to go there, which case I don't really blame them lol

If you have a problem with it, why purchase it in points and why use it?
Seems like a likely troll/award farm thread to me, given the lack of post history as well.

To the people saying they'd be okay with an animated Hitler avatar, you damn well know Steam would never allow it.

To Reggae, Joseph Stalin is the same time as Hitler though. If there is an argument that Hitler is still sensitive for the families of those affected, the same argument can be used for Joseph Stalin. And the same argument can be made for Chairman Mao, for that matter.

Julius Cesar and Genghis Khan did commit atrocities but time has distored them into nothing more than a cartoonish story.

It's much easier to have the discussion when it's everywhere in this thread next to my replies. That's why. I don't care about the loss of a few thousand steam points.

So don't use it.

A historical game featuring Hitler is different than having Hitler as your avatar. All of you know that but are playing coy like you don't. I have no problems with a game featuring Hitler. I have a problem with Steam allowing you to buy an animated Hitler as your avatar.

* Replace "Hitler" with "Stalin" the second time around.

That doesn't really answer why you use something you have an issue with.

It does. Sorry English is my only language.

Idk how effective that is, because he looks distant and small, unless you hover your mouse over the avatar... Like, at this point how do I know you're not a secret admirer of Ioseb Jughashvili?
