Steam Friends Feature: Check Shared Games
It is what it sounds like. Find someone on your friends list. Right click. An option on the menu says 'check shared games.' You click. Steam automatically tells you all of the compatible multiplayer games you share, and helps you decide what to play together.

On a larger scale, it can be used to help you find how many of your friends play the game you play, an who they are, all in one tool. It's better than trying to pan out a game night, or go through each game one by one to see who plays it.

Just a suggestion. I wouldn't know how the software would handle it, that's Valve's job.

Edit: After four years, Nebukam posted with a proper solution to the problem:

A thank-you to him.

I initially did that because I have a close group of friends and often want to add/remove new people for a game night and it's often a pain to find which games we'll be able to play -- or simply if we want to play something new but don't what games we have in common within the group ^^

I feel like Steam already has something like this, but I can't find it anywhere. So, please make it easier to find. Or add it in.
You can see what games you have in common. You have to go to your friends profile page and view their games list. Then tick the box that says "filter to games you both own"

But yes, probably could make it a bit easier.

Didn't realize that could be done, thank you. But either way, having it be more convenient would be great. It's kind of a mood-killer to just spent ten minutes sorting out which games we can actually play together and give up from impatience or disinterest.

Edit: I feel like I should explain that better. Some games are uninstalled and unavailable, others simply lack multiplayer, and then others might be running an unstable patch or version of a game. I notice the shared game list shows everything we share, but it doesn't distinguish between the games in that manner, or tell you which one is readily available and which one is not.

Just wanted to add to this as it seems to have gone stale.

this would be a great feature to just see everyone you have as friends and have a list of games you all share together, great for setting up group games or reviewing what can be done.

Kind of like what can be done either on a 1 to 1 basis or can be done on a game by game basis but instead of one game or one person, it's everything.

let it sort by most to least for games.

It would really help the chats of "hey everyone, lets all play a game!" "what game? oh, i dont have that."

Also, bonus round, we could have multiplayer/remote play tags or even as a perk to Steam itself add a "most have this, and its on sale!" so we can convince our friends to buy it

Another bump.

Being able to show a list of all the shared games in a chatroom/group would make it so much easier.

Even having a random picker or a vote system to select what game to play
Was just looking for this capability, and ran across a third-party site that requires my profile to be public and it feels like it'd be a good way to steal someone's login info and stuff. I would definitely want a trustworthy in-Steam ability.

I'd like to easily look up games that we have in common (whichever friends I check), and separate by multiplayer or not (competitive solo games can still be fun, like doing speed runs). And be able to look up without including my own games, or to look up games the others share that I don't have, so as to choose which games I could buy for an upcoming get-together. Bonus if the list of "games all these friends have that I could buy" had quick and easy links to the Steam store page, and maybe even showed regular and current-sale prices for each.
I have over 400 games in my library, do you know how hard it is to simply compare titles? This thread is 4 years old now. Can someone at steam address why this feature hasn't been implemented? It really would be a boon to all that use your service.
I wanna add multiple people and check what steam games we all have in common. It's tiring to check every single person.
would love the ability to compare games. perhaps just show what games everyone on a group chat has? something like that would be great. we spend a lot of time just finding out if everyone has a certain game.

Tim, I can't thank you enough for this chrome extension. My group has been asking for something like this for years and your solution is the best I have seen. My only suggestion, if possible, would be to add some way to keep a record of your friends (that way you don't have to add in the UserID every single time, and could instead remove/hide whoever is not going to be a part of the session). I can see how this could overcomplicate things though, considering you may have to implement some sort of account system for people to log in and store that information. Regardless, what you've made is amazing. Thanks so much, I look forward to using it countless times.

One last thought. I don't know how tech savvy you are, but considering you managed to make this chrome extension, it seems you know a thing or two. If you are capable, I would like to encourage you to make this lookup system into a paid application for phones (Android first, preferably haha). I would definitely purchase it for the convenience of being able to access this information on my phone, and would gladly spread the word and recommend it to other Steam users.

Thanks a lot for the kind words @memeboy, it means a lot to me ! :steamhappy:

Your suggestion makes a lot of sense, and this is definitely something I'll add in the next update. I'll keep you posted in this thread !

As for the mobile app, sadly i'm not equipped yet to deploy such a thing. I don't own an Android device myself so I wouldn't be able to test easily (sure there are emulators but i don't trust them to cover all the real-life situations/specs etc), and while I do own an iOS phone, you need to develop on mac to publish your app on the app store. All in all this feels like a lot of work for something Valve will hopefully make on their side at some point (the Steam mobile app is long due for a revamp ^^).
I'll still look into it, but don't get your hopes up ^^
One alternate solution I'm looking into is making this work on a website (it's already web-based, the chrome extension being just a chrome tab in disguise with additional permissions), but that would mean using the Steam Web API -- and it is very limiting. Originally I was using it to fetch data, but you get 404 error as soon as you make around ~200 requests (worldwide, it's not even per-client) under 5 mins :(
Hurray ! The update is finally available, Google kept it under review for the whole week >.<

What new in 0.0.0.2 [chrome.google.com] :

- As per community feedback (thanks, memeboy !) It is now possible to toggle on/off a user.
- Clicking on a user's avatar will fetch that user's friendlist, making it much easier to add/remove users once at least one exists.
- You can copy/paste user list infos to share it inside a group and avoid everyone having to go through the hassle of finding everyone's ID.
- Minor bugfixes.

Feedback is indeed very welcome <3

Edit : For some reason it appears that you have to remove/add again for the update to take effect

Wow! You went above and beyond. I am honestly very impressed with how quickly you implemented my suggestion and added even more fantastic features. I will be eagerly following your journey with this application. The logistical problems with the mobile app and website make a lot of sense, so no worries! You've made something pretty amazing, and it's even better now with the new update.

I have also now subscribed to this discussion in order to make sure I don't miss anything. I'm glad I checked it out again today to see if you had replied! Awesome job, seriously. :cozybethesda:

Hello, Nebukam. First off, amazing extension! Just found it moments ago and already loving it. Great work! I just wanted to point out bug I noticed. So, I currently just have my friend and I added on the extension. It says, "9 products in common 7 games matches filters" I have the filters set to MMO, Online Pvp, and Online Coop. The problem is that CS:GO and Skyrim are not showing up even though both my friend and I own them. Might be something with the tags but I don't know, just the first thing that popped into my head. Other than that it's working great!
