petition for legacy client for Windows xp era games.
I know many of us may say. "why who needs this its time to move on."

And yes I see your point 99% of us have moved on including me.

But many older games only run properly on windows xp (ie GTA 3-GTA sa era, DFBHD ect.)

And for historical practical and nostalgic reasons we need a legacy client. Or for steam to allow us to simply download our games and put them on disks etc. (The second one most likely not for obvious reasons.)

While most games will only run on windows 7 and later. Many have configuration problems. Or bugs.

For example I cant run GTA sa at max settings or even comfortable at low settings on a GTX 1050 TI 4gb.

Doesn't that seem strange.

But on a high end classic Windows xp machine it will run at 80 FPS at max settings.

And while the majority of Gamers are win 7+ now. You have to think about the % of gamers that are playing older games. And how that crowd is made up of 90% windows xp.

So hear me out tell me what you think down below and I will think about it. Thank you for reading.

Doesn't matter what anyone thinks. Valve have said they aren't going to.

the way the game from your example runs has nothing to do with the version of windows it is on and everything to do with the hardware.

You mean the less than 0.1% of Steam users the last time XP was actually reported?

98% of the statistics are made up, certainly when they fit tha narrative.

As a gamer that loves to play older games, I certainly can say Win 10 works good with most games. The only games that I didn't get to run initially are games with Securom and such, as that's disabled. But those aren't games on Steam anyway and not relevant to the discussion.

But have a check at that big thread that is linked in the first reply, you'll see many people claiming games don't work, yet getting disproven by people who own them and play them on newer machines.

You do know that older games run on modern systems as well, right? Some games may need a bit of tweaking, but so far i haven't found a game i wasn't able to run on my Windows 10 machine.

yes people have hell people have gone so far back that you need to use DOS box and still had every game that was named been shown to work.
Crazy Tiger 2019 年 5 月 18 日 上午 5:55
Games that require DOSbox often are packed with them when sold.

funny how all of your listed games work just fine under 10 (yes, including SA) with a few tweakings.

I shouldent have to tweak anything in order to play my games. Im not lazy But i tried tweaking and strange stuff happens.

1 the axels in car wobble (does not usually happen on xp)

2 if the i dont tweak the game runs awfully bad.

If we were to make a bigger deal out of this we may just get what we need.

Thats of the people who were 1 either online or active.

2 Allowed steam to survey them.

Most windows xp machines are disconnected from the internet a lot of the time in some cases (for security reasons)

They may 'run' but does that mean without buying software/heavy tweaking/mods?

while many do they do not run a max or even medium settings.

Correction. What you 'want', not need.

Tweeking has been a part of PC gaming since the beginning. "Shouldn't have to" sounds like your looking through rose coloured glasses. I had issues with Morrowind on XP that required Tweeking. It's always been there, XP isn't a magic safe zone where all games ran flawlessly.

But again. It's a moot point. They aren't going to support an outdated, no longer supported OS. And making a client for it is support.

This has all been beaten to death in the old thread anyway.
