New Tag "Bullet Heaven" to describe games like Vampire Survivors

Bullet Hell games are when your trying to avoid an onslaught of bullets and projectiles. Bullet Heaven is the opposite. In these games, the entire idea revolves around "becoming the bullet hell".

Bullet Heaven is a good term to use to immediately mark and advertise that difference.

Thoughts?

Your not always using guns though. In this genre your using a HUGE variety of weapons from projectiles, to melee weapons to area of effect type stuff. To call it a shoot it up would dilute that genre beyond recognition

EDIT: nevermind. That genre is already super diluted to include basically anything that has guns. pvp side scroller? first person shooter? has a gun and shoots it? yep, yep and yep.

DIOn't most BH games wind up being bullet heavens. I mean you get fully powered up in those games and you're there's nort puixel on the screen that isn't occupied by someone one's bullets.

Bullet Hell/SHUMP/Shoot em Ups pretty much describe the same kind of game, and that is the kind of game Vampire Survivor is.

It doesn't matter if they are using guns or magic or acorns or bottle caps or knives or cross bows or what ever.

You are the spammer of Bullets.

Claiming it's a bullet hell is blatantly wrong.

Well then start using it and see if it sticks. Bullet Hell was just something coined by gamers and well... it stuck because it totally applied to a very specific type of auto-scrolling shooter.

Yeah. I am aware of the history of Bullet Hell there.
It's just it's accepted all over the Vampire Heaven, Rogue Genesia, other games forums that these games are Bullet Heaven.

I'm not sure why people outside those communities should be dictating what a game is.
If enough people are convinced to tag games as Bullet Heaven, that would make it more valid, for certain.

Who is dictating anything? People are sharing opinions, nothing more. Personally I would describe Vampire Survivors as an idle schmup.

If people want such games to be called Bullet Heaven, they should start tagging the games as such. doesn't mean other people are wrong for calling it differently, though. In the end "bullet hell" and "bullet heaven" both are subgenres of schmups.

Even the developer of the game calls it a bullet hell "Be the bullet hell".


If you and the OP think it should be called a Bullet Heaven, then start calling it that. Start using that term in the USER CREATED tags and see if it catches on.

All I know is yes, it's going to take a lot of people tagging the game for it to catch on outside the communities.

It's just in the communities, and on Youtube, it's well established these games are Bullet Heaven.

Because they don't fit the categories for other games at all.
Also, unlike a bullet hell, you don't die in one hit. :P

Yes, he says you will become the Bullet Hell, but that doesn't mean you are playing a bullet hell.

Again, the big feature of a bullet hell is you die in one hit.

I don't know why people are telling me to change all of the store front here.

There are a bunch of bullet hell kind of games where you don't die with a single hit. You have health and shields, but they are still called bullet hell. Maybe they should be renamed to "bullet not quite hell, but getting there"....

Again if you and the OP want it called Bullet Heaven then start tagging it that and hope it catches on.

I'm just saying it would be nice if there was a designated place to find these kinds of games. Seems vampire survivors is inspiring a lot of clones and that doesn't seem to be slowing down any. Would be nice if games like these had its own place that people could look to and browse freely.

Not meaning to necro a post but this is the first time i have ever heard this term, and Bullet heaven is stupid, a Much better term would be Hoard Hell, got the alliteration and fits the genera because ya know, the pushing hoards that kill with contact damage.
