why add friends limit ? the current limit is too low.also origin just upped to 2000 !
if you play in various communities you can soon amass lots of friends on steam.the limit i have is just over 300 now i think that is too low.

for eg if you game in various groups this soon becomes a small number.way too small.

so why not up it ?

Origin has just revamped itself and the limit now is 2000 ! so steam should revise the current limitations.

im currently having to remove people some i dont want to just because of the limitations .

so can this please be revised.thanks!

That many people is not friends, it just a collection of random strangers.

Just in case, do you know that every time you level up on Steam you get 5 more friend slots?
Tev Sep 12, 2016 @ 6:20am
*has 535 slots; uses like 38, talks to probably 20*

Like Yuuta above said, you get 5 slots per level. Base is 250. Linking Facebook adds another 50.

"Small"

No one has 250 friends that they actually talk to.

Pretty much this.

I don't see any point in adding strangers on the list.

E-peen mostly. You look popular if you have 5000 friends and the facebook kids will love you.

Just heard from a friend who had a friend with 1200 friends who claimed he talked to all of them.

I bet it was practically "Hi" and nothing else, because there's no way one user could have time for all of them. :D:

Those kinds of people would get a "Bye" and removal from me.

One day, I will understand why people want to treat Steam as anything other than a gaming platform and/or a convenient way to store your PC games.

But not today.
Some people use their friends list to spam people to find people who want to play a given game together.

Despite not owning CS:GO on my account, I've received requests to play CS:GO, for example.

Honestly I have too many people on my friends list and I've been meaning to clean up my friends list for a while now.

Easy start: anyone who spams you to play a game you don't own, gets kicked! ;)

To defend users with many friends:
I often add people because they post nice screenshots.
Some people just look interesting so I want to add them.
Some people add good players after match in games like Dota or CSGO, so they can later invite them to the game. They often need many players, because some can be offline, some be in other game, some can be already in game etc.
Other people add users with similar interests (anime fans add other anime fans etc.)
Screenshots and artworks makers add other people because they want more people look at their work.
And if you think people can´t talk with 250 friends, nobody says they need to talk everyday.

From my 140 friends, I ever talked to maybe 15, but I still have a good reason for keeping every my friend.

i talk to most of mine. as pointed out im in a few communities so its actually a hinderance.as pointed out the overhauled Origin has just allowed users upto 2000. it should be upto the user to decide.not limited.

Valve prefers a system of quality over quantity. Friends are not pokemon or high scores.. YOu want to have 2K friends. go jump on Origin.

- or spend money on levels and get slots.

What is on Origin doesn't necessarily mean what has to be on Steam. Of course, you're free to have your own opinion.

For nice screenshots, I just check here:
