Setting for "Exit on Close/Minimize" - 2022
Currently missing a setting to close the steam client upon closing the steam window. Do NOT run in the background, exit without needing to click "Exit" on the tray icon. Should be default on ANY programs, not the other way around. Even if not, at least expose the setting in options. I do not want to need to use taskkill or manually close it in the taskmanager.

On the main client window, just pick Steam -> Exit on the top left, rather than use the X button on the top right...

No need to use task manager. You can use the method Rio mentioned, or rightclick on the tray icon and then exit.

Keep in mind that pressing X to close the Window and not the program is the standard behaviour. It's just that most programs don't have background services and thusly the window *is* the program.

But sure, a setting to change the behaviour would be ok. But the default behaviour still should be as it is now.

That is just wrong. Having a background process in your application framwork has nothing to do with it. You still can run a client-server architecture and have the UI/client exit on close. This is how e.g. UPS run their management software or software licensing software runs in the background. If you do deviate from the standard you at least ought to have to expose a setting for it. If you do want deviating behaviour you have to manually handle the window close event.

The whole function of that X button is to close the current window. Not close the program, just THAT window.

Take something like Gimp or Photoshop or anything else that has multiple windows at the same time, clicking the x on one of them doesn't shut the whole thing down, it just closes that particular window.

It functions the exact same way on Steam as well as many other launchers, though a lot of those other launchers have a friggin option to terminate the program when clicked instead of just closing the window.

Soooo... what you want is an option to exit out of Steam when clicking the X, which has been requested numerous times and god why don't we have it yet Valve.

Seriously. Get on it.

:steamthis: An option to close the Steam client on X without minimizing to tray should indeed be added to the client settings.

It should be like on battle net. Not only can the user decide what happens, it also uses the bigger OS close symbol, which makes a huge difference.

The current system is just terrible. Sure, if you are living with that terrible UX for ages, you may get used to it and adapt, but that doesn't really make it better.
