They are prompts, invuitations to experiement with the mechanics, participate in the community, or explore the world.
However if none of those things matter to you as it is, if the satisfaction of completing those dares, learning or mastering a game mechanic, or finding something new in the game world. If those things aren't reward enough.. then yeah maybe go do something that actually has some intrinsic satisfaction fer ya m8.
It doesn't matter to the devs if you hunt the cheevos, it doesn't matter to the publishers, it doesn't matter to the store. So why should they bother to incentivise it for you beyond what they've already done.
CLearly you're not the sort of person they were designed for.
I have tons of different hobbies but okay. I play competeive sports, go to the gym and i also enjoy working on my car so trust me I use video games to chill. I was just seeing if people felt achievements could use a rework system or maybe have a better achievement level. Even if achievements contributed to your steam level profile I think that is cool.
I was seeing if anyone felt like the achievement system could use some love. No i don't think it should be steam points, I see how that is not profitable for steam and that would never happen.
-Achievements could have their own separate Level on your profile that is just based from all the achievements you have gathered all time.
- Design A cooler looking achievement showcase that is provided on your profile.
- Achievements could contribute not as much xp to your steam level on your profile instead of just crafting badges.
- 100% completion gave you an achievement badge for that game.
I didn't mean it rudely. You just made it sound like you don't think it's worth playing games unless you somehow get rewarded for it, which I found strange. If I were in that position, I would probably drop the hobby.
To give you a better answer to your question, it probably isn't feasible because tying achievements to tangible benefits would require a lot of rework of the system and existing games, or it would be very open to abuse. Right now Steam doesn't police achievements and there are some games that contain hundreds and even thousands of achievements. With over 50000 games on Steam, most of which contain achievements, this would be a gargantuan undertaking.
I tried searching for any posts but I couldn't find any last night. I agree with some of your ideas and I appreciate the fact that you are the whole one who provided an idea to change something regarding the achievement system. I don't think they should provide steam points because then their profit goes down. An obvious never gonna happen. People just assume I said that, that's not what I wanted, I was just seeing if anyone had ideas. :)
I have a full time job, i play sports, I workout, I attend school and i go outside. I have a life lol I'm not sure why everyone suggest I have not touched grass, Im suggesting a rework on achievements or something.
I do not expect Valve to craft me a golden AK-47 and ship it to my house when I 100% Counter Strike Global Offensive. I was suggesting maybe a updated achievement showcase, have a separate achievement level that is added up from all the achievements you have gathered. Maybe have achievements give little amounts of xp that are contributed to your steam profile level.
Steam isn't going to reward you for getting rewards.
The one thing they should do is give us the option to turn it all off. Make participating in the achievements more optional, as the consoles do. On there I can turn off the notifications and such and never actually be bothered by them.
I mean, if the game itself ain’t a reward to you… then why are you playing?

Some games are you get it by playing, and other games are from playing to actually doing extremely specific and difficult tasks, some of which can unlock in-game items as a reward.
So, first it comes to the Dev to adopt achievements and make any form of reward for achievements.
It's not likely Valve will make achievements "more valuable" as they're just there.
No real point in making them worth anything.
As they are now they are nothing but participation trophies that a semi trained Chimp could get.
I got all but 3 achievements in the Terminator game simply by playing the game.
To be fair, achievements aren't just for players. For devs they're a very good way of keeping track of how the playerbase is reacting to the game, what they're struggling with and how far the average player gets into the game.
