Thumbs up - spam.
What we currently have is a far better system.
Edit: Heck, just browse Reddit and note how many of the more popular subs have pinned threads asking people not to downvote the original posters. Also, it led to stupid karma farming insanity that makes moderating a sub a bloody nightmare.
Two people can have a discussion just like we are.
Thumbs up would be spam because it adds nothing to the discussion and Valve did not make these voting forums.
Thumbs up = expressing approval = expressing opinion.
I've seen some people repeatedly writing nonsense on the Steam forums and adding nothing of value to the discussion, a thumbs up ends up being better than that because at least it doesn't derail the thread. So if thumbs up gotta go, than Steam should clean up the rest of the junk.
= spam as in not expressing an opinion via words.
Secondly you can add a thumbs up after expressing your opinion.
Approval? these are not voting forums.
And as always you exclude yourself.
I agree with this.
Or in other words: thumbs up!
Oh, I see now. Once again you have your own special definition of what a certain word means.
Spam.
Irrelevant or unsolicited messages sent over the internet, typically to a large number of users, for the purposes of advertising, phishing, spreading malware, etc.
Expressing approval is not irrelevant. As it illustrates support for an idea or an argument.
By your own personal definition of spam, Steam Awards themselves are spam.
"Post spam (i.e. +1, 10char, rickrolls) or Re-post Closed, Modified, Deleted Content"
Most likely we don't have a "like" or "Thumbs up" because it doesn't really matter if a million people agree with a post or not, what matters is the idea in the post itself
He is actually not talking about posting thumb ups but instead being able to thumbs up a post.
Also similar to CDPR's forums regulations.

(snipped)
In particular, it is prohibited to:
- spam and/or publish posts lacking meaningful content
Which relates to the OP's suggestion.
Thread title: Why can't we "just" thumbs up, or like a discussion? https://ibb.co/fY3B5Px - note the use of "just"
And confirmed by:
"approval without words"
And the most obvious one in the OP post.
i dont know if thumbing up this comment would bring in discussion or just
get people to like similar ideas that may not be that good of a idea....
