Hide Adult Games
Steam already has the ability to make all games you have/play private, it would be nice if there was a function to hide adult only games, people have family on steam, and maybe you dont want to broadcast to them that you are playing those types of games.

Besides, some of these games are very difficult, despite being "lewd". I've not been able to get 100% achievements in some of them and trust me... i've tried

Oh, that's interesting. What is the hardest one you've found?
Usually they're not even "games", so a good challenge is welcome.
I've bought some "bullet hell" genre games and I've completely missed the fact there is a hard mode .. which means you only have one life to complete the level/game. I believe one of these game is named Hentai Girl Division
I accidentally bought an adult game 18+ and thought it was a normal shooting game, it was actually a misogynist game and appeals to the 'male fantasy'. I thought I was saving cats who looks like humans and I just freaked out after realizing for the past 3 years - One-handed mode has another use for the other hand.

Short sentence: I bought an innocent-looking game, it was an adult game for people who has an obsession on hormones and cat girls.

Honestly, there's nothing wrong with playing adult games when you're an adult.. I embrace it fully.
There's also nothing wrong in keeping private whatever you want to keep private, without having to go full closeted shut-in.

I dont think he meant it in that context David, in fairness literally you can just google search over 80% of fetishes and there's bound to be some site with either art or vids of it for free (standardly it also has ads because they need some means to fund the cloud storage!)
OKay. Yeah. Good point.
I took him too literally.

I have that issue.

Its all good, the thing here is that in context I'll be blunt with the OP

If you need to hide the adult games to start with, just make a secondary account to do that, like this is one of these situations where if your worried about people seeing you play an adult game, then dont use that account, just use a secondary one, in my case people know what I play so I dont hide it, and I make sure to inform household members when I'm occupied so literally they dont end up strolling in and I do it without shame, if people cant be forward with it then honestly just avoid it or use literally Steam incongnedo mode, AKA basically invisible mode or even just a secondary account.
OP I think this is a great suggestion. I would buy so many more games if I didn't have to manage what my friends and family saw.

Shizune I agree with this. But if you've already bought 10 or 20 games on your main account, then there's no way to bring those games over to a private account. Including all the achievements you've accomplished. If there was a way to move games over, than yes this wouldn't be bad solution. And furthermore if Steam do finally grant their users more control of their privacy, the people with 2 accounts, with adult games on both, will now have to manage two libraries.

My sex life is private, and I would prefer if my sex games were private too :karrynComfy:

That doesn’t really follow.

There's also nothing wrong with devs and publishers respecting a customer's privacy once the money's changed hands. They wouldn't want us walking in on them getting jiggy with the interns, at least not without inviting us first.

I do like the ability to deny all optional cookies, trackers and analytics through the account's "preferences" section. It doesn't shut out Valve, and that's fine, at the end of the day they own Steam -- not the devs or publishers.

That's a bit of a bizarre take on the situation.
Eh?

You can already do that through your preferences.

If you refer to game related tracking, you'll have to take it up with the developer, as it's out of Steam's scope to grant that.

If someone can't see your hobbies then they're not worth associating with. Enjoy your games.

I've seen a lot of threads about this and this is the general response from most forum users it seems, but I think it stems from the fact that people don't realise that platforms like Steam (or any platform that involve socialisation) are becoming more and more intertwined with our real lives and thus, need greater privacy controls.

Steam is not just an anonymous gaming platform any more than instagram is anonymous photo sharing platform or tiktok is an anonymous video-sharing platform. The days of anonymous gaming and yelling down the mic at randoms on Halo are a thing of the past; your profile is often linked to other social media/services or linked to purchases, interests, etc. People who work in offices together will join each other for games over Discord and through Steam. Adding someone on Steam is more akin to adding someone on Facebook these days, "oh you play *this* game, cool! I'll add you on Steam, we can play together" - "Oh... um... uh, sure... but I have to keep my profile private because as much as I want to socialise with you, Steam only has like 2 preset levels of privacy which is basically you see all or you see nothing..."

As for the antisocial people being like "just don't hide it, 4head", I liken it to something like having sex toys in your bedroom drawer. I'm not ashamed to have them, but I also don't exactly leave them on the coffee table when people come over. I don't exactly want to talk about it with my coworkers, even though I wouldn't be ashamed of it either. You don't have to be an obnoxiously hostile and confrontational person about everything in life like that; you can be confident and enjoy your own interests and hobbies without wanting it to be on display for everyone either.

I would like to have greater control over my profile and what I wish to display, and I don't think that harms anyone else if I want to hide certain games. This doesn't even just mean adult games; maybe I just don't want people to know that I have 2000 hours on The Sims 3, which I think is completely fine for me to want to keep to myself without having to lockdown my entire profile with maximum security in order to omit that.

I find it a little bizarre people are SO actively against having more control over your privacy and security. I remember when Overwatch brought it the ability to hide your profile and people went insane about it; or at least, the toxic people who could no longer flame mercy/torb/whatever mains did. Power to the people, I say. Let people decide what they do and don't want to have on their profile and give them full control. There's literally no logical reason to be against giving the user more control, I find it absurd that a vocal minority of users are AGAINST having more control, it's genuinely baffling.
