Please give us a REAL "block" feature instead of a useless "mute"

Failure to do so - encourages & promotes the bratty skateboard nitwits here.

I'm talking of the SAME block feature that every social media platform has:
it works BOTH ways - they can't see or respond to the blocker
thus the rest of us won't have to sift thru their bratty, nitwit crap.

You guys REALLY_DO call it a "discussions" platform for a reason, eh?
Instead, it's a prolific "pass hate mail back-and-forth". We're getting tired
of having their "bad childhood" crap shoved in our faces. Sheesh!

Exactly and that right there is why they will not do this suggestion. Valve wants these forums to be inclusive not exclusive. That is what a lot of you are not understanding.

Considering that people only make these claims in accordance with discriminatory or intolerant biases, I don't really care if what these people actually need is psychiatric help - they shouldn't be on the public forums if they are going to try to restrict others from participating via empty premises.

In this case, the issue is with the users making the complaint, who want the whole world to function like a private club or Discord server or something, rather than for public places to actually be... public!

There already is a total block, but the users making this suggestion want the block function to not only block direct contact via DM, chats, & uploaded content, but to also act as a makeshift digital restraining order that applies to the public forums of the service.

It does - with two flaws in that # you still get new message notifications from blocked users - that shouldn't happen, & # You can still see topics created by people that you blocked without even so much as an icon indicating that it's from someone that you blocked, meanwhile they can just change their name & you won't even recognize that this is someone that you blocked because you believe you shouldn't be responding to them.

But it hides the post, and blocking also prevents all of these things :

Reddit's new block feature got horrible pushback for that reason. Super-posters in different subs were able to just start blocking dissent and continue posting misinformation without really any countering.

Interestingly people suggesting this kind of features fall in the 'zombie survivor trap':Believing that in a zombie apocalypse they'd be part of the survivors, when most probably they'd be crawling and chewing brains.

They see themselves in the position of the Super-posters, not thinking they'll probably end amongst the people who the system gets weaponized against.

It's always advisable to consider the two sides of the coin.

It's not jumping it's what it is, that's what you want. Jumping to conclusions would be you when you laughed when I told you that I blocked a lot of people.

Do you know why I have a lot of people on my block list?


99% of them are users that have VAC or game bans or some other type of permanent ban. So they try to add me so that they can either argue or try to discuss their ban or try to get my help in getting it removed. The first two, I don't care about what they have to say and the third one I don't have the power to remove their ban anyway so it is pointless for me to have conversations with them about it. Which is exactly why it says what it says on my profile.
