Secondly. Achievement hunters aren't particularly bothered by how other people get their achievements. I mean even if they did that with SAM> loading save files from other people, using console commands, workshop mods, hex editing, custom servers, etc are all methods of 'cheating' cheevos.
This is why cheevo hunters really don't care. Sad people who attach their self-worth to their cheevos are another matter however. They're like those old people who grumble "Back when I was your age I had to walk a mile to take the bus to the library and spend all day writing out the stuff in those books for me assifgnments, not like you lazy kids that just Google it on the internet."
Cheevos are there to be gotten. How you get them is for you to decide. SOme people think linearlly, while other clever people think outside the box.
Also Devs can already do this if they want.
That promise didn't even laast a week.
I heard from some regulars that mods started taking action against the trolls. Well, at least one of them got banned for a bit. Renewed my hope in this space.
Laugh Out Loud.
At any rate achievements don't matter, the system isn't secure at all, people using SAM aren't hurting anyone. So keep dreaming for consequences for a non-issue.
Wasn't aware I made a promise of any kind.
Said I'd leave if things didn't get better. Things got a tiny bit better, so I decided to stick around.
Besides, someone needs to show the newcomers the Steam Hub is not just toxic people. There's great people, too.
Yes it is. SAM makes no efforts to mask/hide itself.
What is the signature that indicates SAM usage?
No it isn't. SAM just sends the same message the game does telling an achievement to unlock. if you were to unlock an achievement via SAM and an achievement in game Steam would get the exact same message stating to unlock achievement X.
Some games USED to try to block SAM by flagging users if they had a bunch of achievements unlocked at once, but they stopped because it wasn't reliable due to offline mode and achievements being bulk unlocked when you go back online.
Yep, makes the exact same API call, and steam can't tell them apart.
op, when there is a reliable way to filter out sam users (besides the people like me that have no problem saying they use it) and as long as it stays just the cosmetics, go for it.
i care nothing for the achievements and less for the cosmetic changes they give on the profile
this is of course just my take.
nobody in these threads will let me forget
if they want to take my access to achievements away, i would cheer. take them.
