[SteamDeck] Automatic (AI) text magnifier and translator
I known, that Google is your rival, but ...
Google offers Google Lenses, which is used to detect text and automatically translate it.

I think, you can cooperate to add this to games. Of course, game vendors may to enable it for each of title.

Why? Because it helps with Steam Deck, esspecially showing bigger text in other part of screen. Also, you can use other possibilities and add automatically translate service, also supported by AI.

What do you think?

Are you going to pay the large amount of money for the translator from google? They haven't put a translator in the forums from google for the same reason why it will never be put on the SteamDeck, because of how expensive it is.

Valve hasn't done a translator themselves because they are not in to information tech and they can't even get a spell checker to work right.

Also I don't think they would be able to make it so that it auto translates games, maybe includes a link in a forums or guide to translate it but they can't do anything about the text in a game.

As for a magnifier, I could see that maybe as it just makes the pixels on the screen bigger.

Google lens is stupendously expensive when you try to scale usage

The steam deck UI is already highly optimized for the screen. There’s not many parts of the native UI that require magnification or translation

RE UP: I do not wrote about Steam Deck UI, but game dialog and other text. If players could select part of screen and give hint: scale this part of text on top edge, when text is in selected part of text, it could be great. But... It still requires AI to detect if text is displayed.

Why? Because players (maybe?) will need to play playable titles.

Stuff that happens inside the game is not something Valve can control. If you want proper translations IN GAME, then you have to talk to the developer of the game and you do that by posting in the games discussion area.

Even if Valve was to ever include translation feature in their forums and website it would not effect anything inside the game because Valve has no idea the text you are looking at in the game at the time and they don't have any way to program something into it.

If they did come up with something, it again would have to be something that the game developers agree to.

But again as I have mentioned in this thread and every other thread that has to do with translations Valve can't even get spell check to work right, there is no way they would ever be able to get a translator to work right in anywhere near the next 20+ years.

For scaling text in game, again go ask the developer for that to happen. They are the ones that have that control, Valve doesn't. They only control stuff outside of a game. Just a simple screen magnifier, sure Valve could do that, but I also think there are other programs out there that can do that too. Its also not going to look so great magnified.
