Possibility to add a song to the profile

Hi, I come up with an idea that would enliven any profile, the point is that everyone, for example from lvl10, could, thanks to the Music Player, set any song they would like to connect with the profile in some way, and other players who would they opened the given profile, so the song would play for them, I think it would be very welcome for a member of the steak, anyway, it's up to you whether you like my idea :) thank you in advance for the answer, and I wish you a beautiful rest of the day.

Had you taken the time to do a search for this suggestion, you would see that it has been made many times, and there has been plenty of discussion about why this will never happen.

Mostly, because it would annoy most users and if there was an option to disable hearing someones profile music, most people would leave it enabled.

It was already a thing, you were able to have a favorite guide, put on a youtube link on it and then it would autoplay a song when someone entered your profile. But for obvious reasons it was disabled. People would sooner get way too annoyed rather than seeing it as a cool thing.

Also a huge issue would be copyright, so you would probably only be able to play songs from steam soundtracks that you own (and not all games that you own come with free soundtracks, some you have to buy as a separate dlc just to play in steam overlay)

Not a new suggestion. Plenty of others suggest the same thing. It won't happen. Use the search and read some of the other threads as to why

As always when this thread comes up every week or two, the major problem is music companies don't like their music being played anywhere. It was bad enough on older platforms with auto-play, It's already bad enough on youtube with the copyright/dmca over small snips being heard in the background. Valve doesn't want such legal shenanigans from over-zealous music companies, nor to be essentially pushed of forced towards adopting ethically questionable systems made by others to look for & deal with any sign of certain songs/music that are even in the background of something else you may want to upload.

It would be better to have profile customization to an extent rather than allow music on the profile to liven things up.

First not a new idea, made many times and still hated to many to this day. You could have used the search feature before posting up this idea to see all the problems with it.

Second, are you going to pay the thousands of dollars a month that will be required PER SONG to play it on your Steam profile for people to listen to?

And no just because you bought the song on steam doesn't mean you get to broadcast it to potentially millions of people for free. You bought a PERSONAL USE license. Meaning you cal listen to it and thats it.

You need to buy a broadcast license, which as I have mentioned costs thousands of dollars a month.

The RIAA would love to sue YOU AND VALVE for millions of dollars for broadcasting music they own.

Third, if Valve ever did something like this it would HAVE to have an on/off switch and it would have to be off by default. I do not want to go to someones profile and get blasted with what they think is music. I also don't want their music trying to play over music I have running on my own system, which is most of the time when I am not watching a show/movie/youtube.

Lots of people seem to pine for this feature. I assume they're old with nostalgia for days where background midi's were common. Or they're too young to have lived through those times and don't know why being subjected to everyone's song that, "you totally gotta hear, man" isn't as great idea as they imagine.
