also, they could have a OSD like the FPS with how small it is, could show a little battery icon and you can choose where is can be on screen.
i like my lightbar staying certain colors, tho i feel steam is still working on full support for ps5 controller (or 4 i guess), maybe some day (hopefully not very far into the future) haptic and adaptive triggers will work, maybe the speaker as well.
im still trying to figure out binding options, for instance, i want the PS button to take me to the per game controller configuration settings, instead of forcing me into big picture mode...
I think both a battery icon and a lightbar option could be implemented. The battery icon could be useful for non-PS controllers, actually, including the Steam Controller.
As for the PS button, yeah, you can't change its binding, but yeah, an option to create menu shortcuts would be nice. They would work well with guide button chords.
but in any case, i would very much like a battery icon, maybe on the steam overlay, or in the controller configurations (per game settings).
or a new idea, make a battery icon and have it a checkable setting like the steam fps counter, or added it to the fps counter, something would be better than nothing at this point.
Agreed! Too bad most controllers don't have a built-in low battery indicator. Still, being able to adjust the lightbar to it would make it better. Same for adding an on-screen icon.
yeah me personally i don't like nor use the big picture mode unless i'm forced too(right now i'm forced to again for bindings which i hate, like just right clicking a game). granted i ONLY play with a ps4 controller and i still don't like using it lol. for me, i'd much rather use the PS button for another button binding instead of it being mainly locked to big picture, but luckily there is SOOO many ways to bind controls to the controller, my biggest thing has always been detail of how you can mess with the joy curve for the joysticks since i play lots of FPS and TPS games and i can't go back to the game or console versions of the joysticks because their not like mouse movement and it's annoying. plus using it like the console or how the game has it you kinda need aim assist which i hate... why i rebind my right stick as joymouse lol.
now, for me, i only use my controller through USB since it has a WAY faster pulling rate than using wireless/BT(because of FPS and competitive games) so i don't have ANY use for a battery icon. but it's definitely nice to have in case i do use it as wireless as well as everyone else who uses controllers may need it. there is many things that can be done. even a toast notification like the steam achievements can pop up saying about battery level or when it's low and then super low, having a OSD for the battery as i said before so it shows on screen at all times when checked or wanted. or like controller emulations can use the light bar colors for it's battery life that's customizable there is a lot of ways to add something like this and i'm actually kinda shocked they haven't already added a feature for this lol. but i think in big picture mode there is a batter life icon but can't remember. i don't like being forced to use it... bad enough it tries forcing the game closed to exit big picture also which is VERY annoying for setting up a new game or changing controls.
sorry, know i rambled about other things lol.
1) I don't believe direct input has that functionality
2) if xinput has it, then basically you'd have to make it an xinput controller negating all the stuff about the PS controller that isn't part of the xinput standard (basically literally everything useful)
In essence you'd have to make your own driver to do it which is also problematic because you don't have a standardized way of how the controller is made or controlled. they might swap out components/controllers and break it for some random batch of controllers
Yeah, I'm aware of this and did consider switching to DS4Widows, but I chose not to because it lacks activators, which I often use. That said, given that DS4Windows shows the battery level on the light bar and on the screen, I don't see why steam couldn't...
Check the version i mentioned if you have not it has additional functionality than the original.
Ok, I'll look into it. Thanks!
Thanks again!
