Rent a game
I remember the time I was going to blockbuster to rent games for the weekend why steam don't add this option. Maybe is not profitable for developer or maybe it is. any way just a thought what do you think about that ?

Not profitable.

Physical vs Digital goods - it was easy to rent a physical good. Digital stuff is usually subscription based or monthly access charges.

Hmm, charging 10 dollars a month for a game you can finish in about ten hours of gametime, or full price of 60 bucks to keep it forever. Guess which the developer/publisher prefers. They have to pay bills too.

I know I know I just miss renting a game for 5$ for the weekend and finish it.

Someone has to pay for the game copy, want Valve to do it for you? Why should they? So far you haven't made any sensible suggestion as to why that should be a thing.
It is in no way a profitable thing for anyone, besides you. You save tons of money and everyone else, makes a loss.

Yeah and that worked becaus ethe renter basically will make back what they spent on the game and then some. Add that many of those games are acquired second hand...
Yeah. That's a thing.

Here's the think OP. Steam already has the ability tos et up rentals. They've done it before. dev/pubs have this as an option already. They just overwhelmingly choose not to.

♥♥♥♥ bro sorry I dint want to hurt your feeling I guess you own valve and have a lot of money in that company... Or you take my post to seriously. I'm just tired of buy digital copy of singleplayer game that I cant sell after I'm done with it.

Yeah because Blockbuster totally didn't go out of business with that outstanding business model.

"Renting" has been discussed plenty of times, there is barely any profit that can be made from it these days.

The last time i rented a game was back in the PS2 era. I also remember that one of the reasons it ended around here was piracy, often a cd would be unplayable due scratches, it was not profitable anymore.

I miss the booklets, the posters and much more, that used to come with a physical copy, it kinda gave me a feeling that I "owned" something.

So renting in another form....

So you buy the game for 60 and the developer gets 42 bucks.
You play the game beat it in a week and sell it to your friend for 50, the developer and Valve gets nothing.
OR
You play the game beat it in a week and sell it to your friend for 50, you get 8, developer gets 42, valve gets nothing.

Do you see anything wrong with this?

Why would the developer want to make less than 42 bucks which is 70% of the cost. Why would Valve want anything less than 30% of the cost? They have to pay for all the servers and all the back end and everything else, or else they go out of business.

Now remember for every single resale of that key, the developers and Valve either get nothing, or far less than selling it new.

So here is the question you need to answer, whats in it for the developer and Valve?

The answer is nothing or less money. And no "good will" does not pay bills, doesn't keep the servers running, put food in their bellies...

Course you could have already read about all this had you bothered to use the search feature and discovered that both of these ideas were bad the first 100+ times they were suggested, they are bad now, and will be bad the next 1000+ times they are suggested.

It's kinda the same thing with digital games on Steam. You're just buying a license to download and play the game. There is nothing to sell.

buying a movie theater ticket is different to buy a DVD or maybe you are to young to know what owning a DVD or game copy feel like....

Netflix and the Internet as a whole put Blockbuster out of business, although OPs desire to sell their digital games when they are done with them is pretty nonsensical regardless.

If you want to rent games, sub to PC game pass, that's pretty much what that is, but let go of this notion you will ever get monetary value out of your digital games after you're done with them short of it being mandated by law.

n NOt likely to haooen either. Nor would most gamers want it because basically you'll be trading a paltry amount of money in exchange for losing deep discounts and sales . Yeah not a trade off I'd be willing to make.. Plus it would make athings even worse fwhen accounts get hijaked.

Given the OPs responses, wonder how long it'll take for this to get locked.
