Hardware Bans
Steam you guys have the gaming world by the guts. Why instead of allowing such ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ from other community members in game make it awful experience. Why are we not adding hardware bans. It's this simple. If people are getting Vac Ban then they should get a hardware ban. People have no repercussion for being ignorant or just totally making you look foolish or just Money hungry greedy ♥♥♥♥♥. A hardware ban would stop alot of the ♥♥♥♥ that happens on steam and in the games. It's a privilege to be able to use this client not a right. Treat it as such. I honestly think we need hardware bans in the community across steam.

Hey, it's that suggestion again that is easily bypassed.

If you knew more about Hardware bans, I doubt you'd be so for them.

A Multi Billion Dollar company can make a hardware ban hard to pass. I do IT work at a pretty big company and I can tell you people dont use WiFi for porn anymore lol

No.

Hypothetically speaking a person knowing that there could be a hardware ban behind the stupid shady stuff would keep the community 50% cleaner. We have laws for everything. We all chance breaking them because they have minor punishments for somethings. But lets just say if you get caught stealing they cut your hand off. How many people you think would still do this. Less than half. Same with cheating. Some games of F2P so just keep opening accounts. Steam would still make a ♥♥♥♥ load of money by putting skins back on the market or whatever. I mean I would be pist if my inventory and main account got Froze and then had to watch my skins go onto the market where I cant even see them lol They gotta add a deterrent

It's always someone who proudly tells us they work in IT.

Again if you think companies have somehwo never thought of this before like its some kind of genius idea, you're wrong. PB and BE both tried using hardware based bans. they stopped using them because tehy were largely ineffective and in fact could be spoofed to not only bypass the bans but actually cause bans for other users

Mmmmm I can tell you are so wrong that it would be pointless to suggest how wrong you are that people dont but moving on..

Steam wont ban hardware. What your asking for is Steam to punish a microscopic group of hackers and trolls on TF2 and CSGO by using extreme means that will retroactivity punish hundreds of other games and parties using Steam.

LMAO-Box has not been used in years, most bots these days are self designed scripts made at the user level, like the Cat bots from 2 years ago? That was done by one guy writing a freaking note doc and then shared it on youtube, the music spamming ones? They worked on a self-made API that functioned like Discords music bots.

What your asking Valve to do is ban anything that uses scripts, which mind you is literally every video game on steam. I get how bad the cheating on those two games are, heck I've seen both of their subgame forums and the VAC ban area but their not going to do hardware ban on the claim it would change anything. The irony here is that both games work off Valves own Source Engine and have stated enough times to just report the hackers and move on. Is it perfect? Far from it, does it work? Yes.

Okay mister I work in IT... Hardware bans... it takes me about 5 seconds after I hit my bios to change any hardware ID's. oh also I can make changes to the hardware id's within Windows if need be in about the same amount of time... Also throwing around you work in IT, basically means tier 1 support desk noobie or you fix your grandmothers computer when you goto family reunions.

I know, F12 when your PC starts up is a rather cool feature to access the BIOS system, literally anyone can do it by TURNING THE MACHINE ON LOL and ya, we all can change the ID there to, thats not impressiv,e thats default crap you learn to do after wiping a computer after a virus that I seriously imagine every PC warehouse has in fixing PC's, but you know what is cool? Knowing the BIOS is SOFTWARE, not HARDWARE. So unless your telling me you plan on Valve having access to a persons PC system directly which practially is an invasion of privacy by knowing what one does to their machine then please explain to me how your understand of default BIOS startup and HARDWARE bans are the same

No, it's a waste of manpower, IP/MAC/HW bans are pointless and will at best punish innocent people who had done nothing wrong but buying a used pice of hardware.

Of course you do.

:steamthumbsdown:It's a no from me on this one as it's a pointless gimmic imo.

The idea that you take it so personal where you feel the education level is so high because of simply saying IT. Because you think you can change your ID's within in windows so easy. You might be computer savy but not all will be able to just so easily change ID's or go through the process of have a actual punishment for being a ♥♥♥♥ bag. Whats so wrong with having the community actually clean up this ♥♥♥♥.

Hardware and IP bans can be bypassed in seconds.

Also how do you deal with PC hardware thats been banned that is then sold unknowingly to some person out there?

How do you deal with IPs being redistributed to innocent people on an ISPs network?

You don't because you just don't do them in the first place because hardware bans and IP bans are dumb.

Oh man another "I work in IT so I know how everything works and everyone else is wrong" kind of person....

I've been doing IT more then likely since before you were born and I learned decades ago hardware bans on computers that your company didn't lock down before giving to the person are pointless and even hardware bans on those locked down system can be skirted around but they chance being fired if they do.

You might also think banning porn on phones over the company servers is easy but I have no doubt there are people who have gotten around your companies porn ban.

You can lock down company phones that you give employees so much easier than you can some random persons computer 1000 miles away that you have zero control over.

PC computers != Cell Phone

Apex Legends, Activision/Blizzard, Valorant (just to name a few) have hardware bans... there are still TONS of cheaters in the games.... do you know why? Because hardware bans don't work and can be bypassed, they might "scare" the noob cheater, but hardcore cheaters don't care about them.

And yes its easy, using google for just seconds shows you how easy.

I'm trying to make sense of his claim that people are using company wifi to access spicy content. . . .at work.

NSFW = Not Safe For Work
It's literally in the name.

Why would someone do that at work? What good is that to view such content at work?

They're a digital store and VAC is primarily for their own games.
HWID is easily bypassed, just like IP ones. This is why accounts receive bans. Why does everyone that thinks Valve magically can stop anything & everything because "billion dollar company". IT people should know this already.

Notice even you recognize punishment, not at-the-exact-moment punishment. Almost all anticheats have a delay before the ban, when detecting something.
