Oh and they already have the ability for subscriptions to their games, but well as we can see almost no one takes Valve up on that.
If I can rent a game for 2 bucks for 24 hours of total time and I beat the game in that time, why would I bother buying the game after that point.
And yes it would have to be a super cheap rental fee because when you have games going on sale for 50% to 75% in the first year or 2, why would I rent the game for 5 bucks when I can just buy it for 5 or so bucks?
If you want to "rent" games, try one of those subscription services that are being rolled out now from Microsoft or other companies.
Ask the game devs.
Also the point is this would not be for those kind of games where you can finish them quickly.
Although I guess that's what free weekends are for.
Interestingly enough, that's how movie rentals for example work, and those keep happening. Your probably right, but I'm pointing out that kind of model works for movie renting.
The simple truth is, the option is of no interest to devbelopers.
Thousands of games out there doesn't even have a demo of their game up til now. We're forced to refund every 2 hour period for that demo alone. Worse, the refund becomes Steam credits. So yeah, demo isn't rental but what I'm trying to say is nobody's using demo feature so will they be with the rental feature.
They do have that feature on softwares mostly with the monthly licensing.
"forced to refund". No, poor consumer choices because their favorite youtuber/streamer played a game for 10 minutes "forced" them to refund.
Two, and more importantly: using the refund system for demos is considered abuse by Valve. They will start warning you in the refund replies, and they will stop refunding to you altogether if you persist.
And yes, we're all aware there's a "it's no fun" option on the ticket, that's just for feedback. Not an infinitely valid reason for refunds.
Refunds exist, in case the game doesn't work.
Don't see the point of renting.
